Emperor Niall Ardanach is a character in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. He is the ruler of the Empire of Mor Ardain. He is the cousin of the Special Inquisitor Mòrag Ladair but they both consider eachother as siblings. He is also Aegaeon's former Driver.
History[]
Before the events of the game[]
Before his birth, the former emperor had no heir so his cousin, Mòrag Ladair was raised as the future empress. However, in the last years of his life, the emperor finally succeeded in having a heir and since males are always privileged over females in the Ardainian line of succession, Niall was fated to become emperor.
In Xenoblade Chronicles 2[]
Niall is first seen when Mòrag and Brighid comes back from the Imperial Province of Gormott after her defeat against the party, the emperor and his Blade, Aegeaon, greets them. The emperor tells them that he wishes to meet Rex and Pyra.
The emperor is then seen in the Indoline Praetorium where he comes to represent the Empire in the world summit of leaders where he assures Queen Raqura that the incident in Temperantia was the doing of Torna and not his. After the end of the first summit, a second is planned in the Empire's Titan battleship but Bana plans to assassinate both leaders. He is stopped by the party but in a last-ditch attempt to kill everyone on board, Bana activates an explosive device in Giga Rosa. Aegeaon protect everyone while Niall tries to stop Bana but he fail and is killed by the bomb forcing Aegeaon to return in his Core Crystal.
However, Nia use her healing powers to bring him back to life while Dromarch distract the rest of the group. The emperor then designates Mòrag to accompany the Aegis to the Kingdom of Tantal to protect her, and gives her Aegaeon's Core Crystal.
