Leongar, also known as Leon, is a character in Kirby and the Forgotten Land and the secondary antagonist of the game. He is the leader of the Beast Pack.

Description[]

Leongar is a humanoid lion who has a similar build to King Bowser Koopa from the Super Mario series. He has pentadactyl hands and tetradactyl feet. When brainwashed by Fecto Forgo, he has blank white eyes that glow.

Prior to his encounter with Fecto Forgo, Leongar was one of the benevolent leaders of the animal kingdom, the other being Carol. However, his contact with Fecto Forgo caused him to be subjugated by the monster. Leongar showed loyalty to his new "god," working so that Fecto Forgo can achieve his complete form. After he is restored, Leongar reverts to his former personality.

Games[]

Kirby and the Forgotten Land[]

Prior to the events of the game, Leon was the benevolent co-leader of the animal kingdom alongside Carol. At some point Leon discovered Fecto Forgo, who used its psychic powers to take over his mind. The brainwashing caused Leon, renamed Leongar, to speak in a different language. He later became the head of the Beast Pack, with Carol, who created an identity called Clawroline, as his second-in-command. He then had his subordinates kidnap many Waddle Dees, who had been brought to their world from Planet Popstar through a portal of Fecto's creation, to use them to power the lab and provide the energy they needed to escape. He also sent them out to capture Elfilin since he's Fecto Forgo's missing half, and Fecto had convinced Leongar in his brainwashed state that if he brought him to them and allowed them to reunite so they could reattain their complete form, they would grant him and his followers the power to travel through dimensions, just as it did the people of the ancient civilization (which was obviously a lie since the people captured them to stop them to stop them from destroying all life on the planet and attained that ability through experimenting on them). Eventually, King Dedede, whom was also brainwashed by Fecto Forgo and joined the Beast Pack, was successful in this and brought him to the lab.

Leongar is first encountered at Lab Discovera when Kirby fights his way there to rescue Elfilin and engages him in battle after explaining what Elfilin is and his reason for capturing him. After he is defeated, Fecto Forgo becomes fed up with Kirby's interference and absorbs him along with a number of other members of the Beast Pack turning them into a goopy, chimera-like abomination. upon taking this form they, chase after Kirby and Elfilin. Although Kirby defeats them pretty easily, they still absorb Elfilin and transform into Fecto Elfilis. However, Kirby still manages to defeat Fecto Elfilis and save Elfilin, with the two even stopping them from destroying both the Forgotten Land and Planet Popstar by thwarting its attempt to have the two planets collide into one another. However, Leongar is the only member of the Beast Pack in the wake of its defeat to not to be recovered due to Fecto's surviving spirit, Soul Forgo, taking his body to Isolated Isles: Forgo Dream, a world created by its dreams, where it shatters his soul into hundreds of pieces and plans to use his empty body as a vessel and make a comeback. With the help of Clawroline, Kirby and Elfilin find a rift that transports them to this dream world, where they start collecting all of the missing parts of Leongar's soul so he can be restored to his old self. After finding them all, they arrive at Forgo Land where Leongar's body is being kept, return them to him and wake him up. However, just after they prematurely celebrate, Soul Forgo forcefully takes over his body again, and engages them in a more grueling second fight as "Forgo Leon". Despite this, Kirby manages to defeat them once again, which exorcises them from Leon's body, and subsequently defeats Morpho Knight when they unexpectedly come along and absorb Soul Forgo. After the battles, Kirby and Elfilin try to wake him up, but to no avail, much to their sadness. However, Clawroline and the rest of the Beast Pack then arrive with additional pieces of Leongar's soul and give them to him. This causes Leongar to reawaken once again, this time for good, and the Beast Pack celebrates the return of their king before returning back home.

Battle[]

Leongar uses his claws to attack Kirby throughout his battle. At long range, his claws create lasers that charge forwards, their swiping direction dictating the orientation that the lasers follow during their forward charge. Leongar can also slam the floor with his fists akin to how one uses a hammer. Upon losing half his health, his mind is taken over by Fecto Forgo, prompting the King of the Beasts to give into his bestial side. His new attacks involve him charging towards Kirby, biting repeatedly, and launching a stream of flames from his mouth. As Forgo Leon, these attack patterns are reversed, but the souped-up versions of his original fight's first phase attacks are now more damaging and his claws leave behind fire trails. A third phase is also added, starting as Leongar creates more laser waves with his claws and then Fecto Forgo shows up and launches an energy explosion that deals big damage. Fecto Forgo is also able to teleport around the arena, launching exploding energy bombs from his tail, and if Leongar is not defeated in time, Fecto Forgo's explosion attack will recharge, being used immediately.

Trivia[]

  • Etymology: Leongar derives his name from the word leō (Latin for Lion, derived from Greek léōn (also meaning lion; written λέων)), with the final -gar coming from the Japanese growling onomatopoeia, garuru (ガルル in Katakana).
