Dark Meta Knight is a recurring villain in the Kirby series. He is the Mirror World's version of Meta Knight, lacking his counterpart's chivalrous nature, Dark Meta Knight is ruthless, willing to sucker punch foes without warning and seemingly only cares about the orders of his boss, Dark Mind.

Dark Meta Knight first appeared as the secondary antagonist in Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, before becoming a secret boss in Kirby: Triple Deluxe and a playable character in Kirby Star Allies; unlocked as part of the Wave 2 DLC alongside Adeleine and Daroach.

Appearance[]

When he is defeated, Dark Meta Knight breaks apart and shatters, like a broken mirror. This is referenced if he were to die in Kirby Star Allies His appearance is similar to that of Meta Knight, but is different in coloration. His skin is gray, his cape is tattered, and his eyes are more slanted. also, in an official artwork, it is shown that he has a scar over his left eye on his mask. The sword he wields is a copy of Galaxia, the difference being that it is silver, instead of gold and the hooks are square shaped. He has a different mindset than the real Meta Knight in Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, not only never or hardly showing honor, but is nothing but pure, conceited evil. In Kirby Star Allies, however, he seems to have reformed.

History[]

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[]

Dark Meta Knight's first appearance. He is the game's secondary antagonist working with his boss Dark Mind to corrupt the Dimension Mirror so that it only reflects evil desires. When Meta Knight hears of the danger this presents to Dream Land, he flies into the Dimension Mirror to confront the evil, however Dark Meta Knight sneaks out of the Mirror as Meta Knight is approaching and attacks Kirby, cutting him into four and seemingly wounding him. However, when he leaves, the four pieces of Kirby become Pink, Yellow, Red and Green Kirby. The four Kirbies give chase and catch up to Dark Meta Knight, locked in combat with Meta Knight. Momentarily distracted, Meta Knight is knocked into a mirror portal which Dark Meta Knight slices into 8 pieces, trapping him.

Dark Meta Knight next appears as the boss of Radish Ruins. Labeled as ???, he takes on the appearance of Meta Knight, however, he does not offer Kirby a sword before their fight, as Meta Kight commonly does. When defeated, his mask shatters, and he drops the guise before teleporting away with his cape.

After Kirby retrieves all of the Mirror Shards and repairs the Mirror Portal, Dark Meta Knight again attempts to deceive Kirby by pretending to be Meta Knight, however the real Meta Knight shows up and forces Dark Meta Knight to drop the disguise once and for all. Fighting the four Kirbies, he is eventually defeated and his body shatters like glass before his boss, Dark Mind reveals himself.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[]

Dark Meta Knight appears as the final boss of Dededetour mode. He comes out of the Dimension Mirror after King Dedede defeats his Mirror World counterpart, Shadow Dedede and enters the Mirror World. He is revealed to be the one behind Queen Sectonia's madness. Dark Meta Knight is also one of the bosses fought in The True Arena.

Kirby Star Allies[]

Dark Meta Knight came to the game as a Dream Friend in Wave 2. He uses mirrors as a means to attack alongside his sword and also has access to moves usually used by Mirror Kirby in the other games as well as the ability to deflect most enemy projectiles.

Super Smash Bros.[]

Dark Meta Knight appears as an alternate costume for Meta Knight in the Smash Bros. games. In his first appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U the costume is just a simple recolor, but in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate the costume gains Dark Meta's iconic scar.

In Meta Knight's Ultimate classic mode "Two Sides of the Same Coin", which consists of battles against characters and their dark counterparts. The final Rival Match before Master Hand and Crazy Hand is against Dark Meta Knight and Galacta Knight.
