Searching for a Dream[]
Lighthorsemen[]
- "They will see me. Not as they think I should be. They will see me as I am."
- ―Tuklo[src]
Tuklo grew up with her father, who was a Lighthorseman. Due to this, Tuklo naturally possessed expert marksmanship, which she used on some pears, shooting them with great efficiency. Chen-Ke was impressed and gave Tuklo a shaved stick, which she took and threw at a tree, breaking off a stub on the branch. She then turned to her father in glee, saying that she wanted to be a lighthorseman. Her father refused, saying that men are life takers while women are life givers. Tuklo responded saying that giving life meant nothing if she could not protect it.
Tuklo ran off into the forest until she knelt beside a pond. She said that braids are for men and Choctaw warriors. Therefore, she took her hair and braided it, saying that they will see her not as she should be, but how she is. Suddenly, Tuklo's hand started glowing as she sensed something. She then looked down and saw the Nanih Waiya in front of her. She then had a vision of her ancestors, Chafa and Lowak, which made her realize the Lighthorsemen were in trouble.
She tracked the Lighthorsemen to see that they were ambushed. Tuklo jumped into action and shot one enemy down easily. She then shot many other times as Chen-Ke did a war cry in celebration. When the enemies were all killed, Chen-Ke shot his gun into the air, proud of his daughter. Once the battle was over with, Tuklo became a permanent member of the Lighthorsemen.[1]
Legacy[]
Echoing[]
- "I could hardly say they were always with me. They had an ability to know when they were truly needed."
- ―Chula Battiest[src]
Just as Chafa and Lowak did to her, Tuklo began echoing to her descendents when they needed her most. When Chula Battiest was giving birth to Taloa, Tuklo and the ancestors reach out to her to give her strength. Tuklo appeared in the Nanih Waiya braiding her hair. This helped Battiest survive labor.[2]
Tuklo also began echoing to Maya Lopez. Angry, Lopez also saw visions of Tuklo as she shot at a swingset. Tuklo also gave her strength to fight against many Black Knife Cartel members, using various methods mastered by Tuklo like whipping and shooting.[1] Later, Lopez talked to Battiest and got some answers about the visions she had been seeing. Battiest explained that the same thing happened to her.[2] Lopez then saw an illusion of her mother, who explained that their ancestors echo through them to give them strength when they most need it.
During a confrontation with Kingpin, Lopez found herself having to save Battiest and Bonnie. She then channeled Chafa, Lowak, Tuklo and Taloa through her, which allowed her to give Bonnie and Battiest powers to take down Fisk's men. Lopez then took down Kingpin herself.[3]
