- "We don't even know what this is."
"Fury did. Just do it, please. You tell me the second you get a signal. I wanna know who's on the other end of that thing." - ―Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff[src]
The Transmitter Pager is a communication device used by Nick Fury. An ordinary Earth pager, it was modified by Carol Danvers using Kree technology for use as a way to contact her in an emergency situation.
History[]
Original Version[]
The pager was used by Nick Fury who took pride in possessing a state of the art communication device. Fury used it to call S.H.I.E.L.D. for backup when he and Vers were detained in a Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility. However, since R. Keller was replaced by Talos, Vers confiscated the device from Fury so he would not make another similar mistake.[1]
Upgraded Version[]
- "What? You think I'm gonna crank call you?"
"For emergencies only, okay?" - ―Nick Fury and Carol Danvers[src]
Following the battle at Mar-Vell's laboratory, Carol Danvers upgraded Nick Fury's device and gave it back to Fury at the Rambeau Residence, shortly before departing for space. Danvers assured Fury that the device could reach her even if she would be in another galaxy, but insisted that he should only use it in case of absolute necessity.[1] In 2016, Fury told Maria Hill that despite the Avengers being divided due to the Sokovia Accords and their personal conflict, they wouldn't need to use the pager if they did their jobs right.[2]
Snap[]
- "I thought we bypassed the battery."
"We did. It's still plugged in, it just... it just stopped."
"Reboot it. Send the signal again." - ―Steve Rogers and James Rhodes[src]
In 2018, after hearing about recent alien attacks, Nick Fury became worried and brought the pager with him when he and Maria Hill went to Atlanta, Georgia. After a car nearly hit them, Fury witnessed Hill and several people suddenly disintegrate into dust. Panicked, he grabbed the pager and sent a distress call to Captain Marvel, before disintegrating himself and dropping it on the street.[3]
The pager was then retrieved by the surviving Avengers who brought it to the Avengers Compound in New York. They examined the pager in the Compound's workroom, modifying the pager to run off external power to prevent it from shutting down. Natasha Romanoff proposed that they find out who Fury was contacting before they turned around and saw Captain Marvel, who was in distress and demanded to know about Fury's whereabouts.[4]
Alternate Universe Versions[]
Used by Nick Fury[]
- "Is that a beeper from the '90s?"
"Also our last hope." - ―Phil Coulson and Nick Fury[src]
In an alternate 2010, Nick Fury used the pager to call Carol Danvers back to Earth, much earlier than in the main universe, as he was forming a new roster of Avengers.[5]
Used by Maria Hill[]
- "A beeper?"
- ―Darcy Lewis[src]
In an alternate universe, Maria Hill used the transmitter pager to summon Carol Danvers to deal with Thor and his extraterrestrial friends, who were having reckless parties on Earth.[6]
Capabilities[]
- "I upgraded it. Range should be... couple galaxies, at least."
- ―Carol Danvers to Nick Fury[src]
- Telecommunication: The upgrades made by Carol Danvers allowed the pager to send messages on the galaxy-range distances. However, it will automatically cease sending messages or even signals in the event that the receiving end happens to be already within range proximity of the transmitting device.
