Tony Stark's Glasses are sunglasses designed and used by Tony Stark that house artificial intelligence interfaces such as F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H. After his death, he had a pair passed onto Peter Parker. However, following Parker's identity as Spider-Man being exposed along with him being suspected in the death of Mysterio, the glasses were photographed as evidence by Damage Control.

History[]

"F.R.I.D.A.Y., what am I looking at?"
"Not sure, I'm working on it."

Tony Stark designed and created the glasses sometime after the Ultron Offensive, having retired from active combat duty as an Avenger. After Captain America and Sam Wilson were arrested for violating the Sokovia Accords in Bucharest, Stark wore the glasses on his trip to the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building in Berlin, where he acted as a government-approved middleman between the two Avengers and Thaddeus Ross.

Witnessing Bucky Barnes being interrogated by Helmut Zemo, Stark used the glasses, which had the F.R.I.D.A.Y. A.I. uploaded and integrated into it, to navigate through the building when Zemo arranged for an EMP device to cut off the power. Stark then made his way to the lobby, and witnessed Barnes, who had been brainwashed, fight and kill multiple JCTC agents.[1]

Finding the glasses extremely useful as it gave him instant access to his A.I. and his armors, Stark began wearing them in his daily life. Wearing them while attending a wedding in India, Stark's glasses informed him that Spider-Man had fallen from a high altitude into a lake. As a response, Stark used the glasses to remotely control his Mark XLVII Armor and had F.R.I.D.A.Y. fly the armor to the lake to rescue Spider-Man.[2]

Two years later, Stark had the glasses on him while walking through Central Park with Pepper Potts when he met Doctor Strange and was reunited with Bruce Banner. After the Q-Ship descended in New York City, Stark donned the glasses and activated the F.R.I.D.A.Y. A.I. within, asking her what he was looking at as he wished to analyze the threat. In order to deal with Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian, Stark equipped the Mark L armor, taking off his glasses which were then incorporated into the suit.[3]

Stark wore the glasses once more in 2023 during the Time Heist, bringing one with him to 2012 and 1970. Infiltrating Camp Lehigh, Stark used the glasses' infrared capabilities to confirm Steve Rogers' assertion that S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secret entrance was an elevator in the bunker. After splitting ways with Rogers, Stark relied on the glasses to locate the secret storage facility and find the compartment where the Tesseract was kept. Finding himself suddenly face to face with his father, Stark removed the glasses and put them in his pocket, and brought it with him when he returned to his original timeline.[4]

Creation of E.D.I.T.H.[]

"To Janice! After Tony died, she was the one who discovered that E.D.I.T.H. was being handed over, not to us, not to the defense departments, but to a child."
Quentin Beck[src]

Believing that the Avengers would be successful in their Time Heist and in resurrecting the victims of the Snap but worried that he would lose his life in the process, Tony Stark uploaded an artificial tactical intelligence and defense system named E.D.I.T.H., standing for "Even Dead I'm The Hero", into a pair of his glasses. He then arranged for the glasses to be given to Nick Fury in the event that he died, informing Fury of Peter Parker's secret identity as Spider-Man and instructing him to bequeath the glasses to Parker on his behalf.

Stark also wrote a message for Parker, referring to him as the "next Tony Stark" and stating that he trusted him, enabling it so that only Parker was authorized to use the A.I. within the glasses. However, Fury outsourced the task to Talos, a Skrull whom he had asked to impersonate him, and Talos delivered the glasses to Parker eight months after Stark's death.

In the aftermath of Stark's death, Quentin Beck was informed by his accomplice Janice of E.D.I.T.H.'s existence and that it was to bequeathed to a child named Peter Parker. Knowing that they could not steal the glasses as they needed E.D.I.T.H. authorization to willingly be transferred to them, Beck and his crew then arranged a multitude of plans with the goal of having Parker relinquish the glasses of his own accord.[5]

Asking E.D.I.T.H. about its capabilities, Parker accidentally ordered a missile strike on Brad Davis. Parker attempted to cancel the strike but the glasses were stolen by Flash Thompson, prompting Parker to knock Thompson out and disable the combat drone himself.

After the incident on the bus, Parker was berated for using the glasses' power recklessly. Nonetheless, Parker carried the glasses on his person. While preparing to encounter Molten Man and fight him alongside Mysterio, Parker wore the glasses to speak to E.D.I.T.H., asking her to find a way to keep his teachers and classmates indoors for a few hours, which prompted E.D.I.T.H. to purchase high-end opera tickets for his class.[5]

After being berated by "Nick Fury" for not stepping up as a superhero, Peter Parker brought the glasses with him as he went to a bar with Quentin Beck. Beck then arranged for one of his crew mates to steal the glasses and drop it on the floor, and then had them pick it up and bring it to Parker's attention so that they could discuss the glasses.
