History[]
The Mandarin[]
- "I was able to pinpoint the Mandarin's broadcast signal."
"What are we talking? Far East, Europe, North Africa, Iran, Pakistan, Syria?" - ―J.A.R.V.I.S. and Tony Stark[src]
Syria, along with the Far East, Europe, North Africa, Iran and Pakistan, was one of the places guessed by Tony Stark to be the probable location of the Mandarin's broadcast signal when J.A.R.V.I.S. factored in available A.I.M. downlink facilities, until being informed by J.A.R.V.I.S. that the actual location was Miami, Florida.[1]
Cybertek Shipments[]
Cybertek sent many of its shipments related to the Centipede Project and the creation of the Deathlok Soldiers to many countries around the globe, including Syria, in order to hamper their tracking while they were re-routed to the Barbershop Headquarters in Cuba.
Antoine Triplett managed to identify many of them, learning that their destination point was in Havana, letting Phil Coulson and his team guess where John Garrett established his base once he revealed himself as a HYDRA operative.[2]
Special Operations[]
- "We altered protocol after what happened in Damascus."
- ―Miklos Kozlov to Will Simpson[src]
A Special Ops unit, including Will Simpson, was tasked with finishing a mission in the Syrian capital of Damascus. During the mission Simpson consumed specialized amphetamines created by IGH to greatly increase his endurance and pain tolerance. To combat the effects of these drugs, Simpson was also given supplementary drugs; a stabilizer to prevent his body from shutting down, and a depressant to return his body chemistry to normal levels. Misuse of the pills led to a catastrophe during the mission.[3]
Ambush on the Chitauri Nuclear Weapon Shipment[]
- "Okay boys, our friendly terrorist shipment is headed your way."
- ―Natasha Romanoff to Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson[src]
Continuing their efforts in getting rid of crime and terrorism, Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff and Sam Wilson, all fugitives, made their way to Syria. One of Romanoff's old KGB contacts informed them of a shipment of weapons, enhanced by Chitauri technology being delivered to ISIS. Romanoff infiltrated the area and watched for the delivery to arrive, informing Rogers and Wilson that it was heading their way. As the terrorists inspected the weapons, Rogers and Wilson ambushed them and knocked them out with great ease. Romanoff then joined them and they all took off their disguises and went to move the shipment before they get caught. When asked on whether they should inform Tony Stark about the weapons, Rogers stated that he would have enough to deal with already.
As they were about to leave, they soon came under fire by more terrorists, causing them to hide. Rogers informed them that they had to move the crate full of Chitauri weapons before a stray bullet hits it and causes an explosion, asking Wilson to make a path for them using his wings. Wilson deflecting the incoming bullets, allowing Rogers and Romanoff to escape with the weapons, and then proceeded in firing back at the terrorists at the opportunity. They returned to their Quinjet to load the shipment where they would strip the components, making the weapons unusable and then continue on in their secret missions in Lebanon. When they entered the Quinjet, they were approached by Nick Fury, who had come to them to try and help them mend the damage that happened to the Avengers.[4]
