"I've seen that book. It was Steve's when he came out of the ice. I told him about Trouble Man. He wrote it in that book."
Sam Wilson to Bucky Barnes[src]

Steve Rogers' Notebook was a notebook that contained a list of items, people and events which Steve Rogers made note of in order to become better acquainted with the modern world. The book was later given to Bucky Barnes as a way to help him cope with his time as the Winter Soldier, creating a list of amends.

History[]

Used by Steve Rogers[]

Steve Rogers' To-Do List[]

"Marvin Gaye, 1972, Trouble Man soundtrack. Everything you missed jammed into one album."
"I'll put it on the list."
Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson[src]

In 2014, Steve Rogers told Sam Wilson the day they met while jogging in Washington, D.C. that he had difficulty getting caught up with the modern world. Wilson recommended Marvin Gaye's Trouble Man soundtrack from 1972, stating that it was everything that Rogers had missed while he was frozen jammed into one album. Rogers promptly put it on his list.[1]

Used by Bucky Barnes[]

Bucky Barnes' Amends[]

"I crossed a name off the list of my amends yesterday."
Bucky Barnes to Christina Raynor[src]

In 2023, shortly after being restored to life, Bucky Barnes was handed the book by Steve Rogers. Barnes then was pardoned by the U.S. government and was assigned to go to mandated therapy sessions. When Barnes met with Christina Raynor, his therapist, she advised he make a list of names of people that were affected by him when he was the Winter Soldier, and remedy the issues between them. This included people like Senator L. Atwood, who Barnes helped get into her position of power as a U.S. Senator, as well as people like Yori Nakajima, whose son was killed during a Winter Soldier mission. In 2024, Barnes used the book to help remedy the issues.[2]

Amends with Helmut Zemo[]

"I took the liberty of crossing off my name in your book. I hold no grudges for what you thought you had to do. Goodbye, James."
Helmut Zemo to Bucky Barnes[src]

Aboard his private jet, Helmut Zemo managed to take the book from Bucky Barnes without him noticing. He questioned who Nakajima is, which prompted Barnes to launch out of his seat and take Zemo by the throat. Barnes threatened to kill Zemo if he ever touched the book again. Sam Wilson recognized the book as the same one Steve Rogers had his to-do list in.[3]

At the Sokovian Memorial, where Barnes arrived with the Dora Milaje to arrest Zemo, Zemo informed Barnes that he had crossed his own name off of Barnes' list, having understood and empathizing with Barnes' actions.[4]

Finishing the Book[]

"I'm sure there's at least one person in that book who needs closure about something, and you're the only person who can give it to 'em."
"Probably a dozen."
"That's cool. Start with one."
Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes[src]

During a training session with Captain America's Shield, Sam Wilson advised Bucky Barnes that stopping the wrongdoers he enabled as Winter Soldier would not bring him the peace of mind he was searching for. Wilson told Barnes that instead he needed to give the people he hurt the closure they need, since Barnes was the only person who could do that.[4]

Two months later,[5] Barnes went to Yori Nakajima's home and finally told Nakajima that his son was killed by Winter Soldier. Barnes made similar amends with the rest of the people on his list. Barnes then left a bag in Christina Raynor's office, containing the list with all of the names crossed off, along with a note thanking Raynor for her help.[6]
