The Sanctuary II[1] was a massive warship commanded by Thanos that served as his flag ship from which he carried out his life-long mission to eliminate half of all life in the universe.

Thanos allowed half of them, led by Valkyrie, to flee in escape pods, before the Black Order killed the others.[5] After claiming the Space Stone, Thanos used the Power Stone to destroy the Statesman and teleported himself and the Black Order to the Sanctuary II using the Space Stone.[2]

Gamora to Thanos[src]

Later, Thanos used the Space Stone to teleport himself and Gamora to the Sanctuary II. While in the throne room, Thanos revealed to Gamora that he knew that she had learned the location of the Soul Stone. Revealing he had Nebula captive, Thanos used the Infinity Stones to torture her until Gamora admitted that the Soul Stone was on Vormir and he and Gamora left the ship.

A Chitauri reassembled Nebula's cybernetics and was killed when she faked a malfunction and took it by surprise. Nebula then contacted Mantis and requested that she and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy meet her on Titan. Nebula then took a Necrocraft and escaped the Sanctuary II.[2]

Thanos[src]

In an alternate 2014, Thanos used the Sanctuary II as an orbital base to attack Korbin. After Nebula's implants synchronized with those of her main timeline counterpart, who had time-traveled through the Multiverse into their timeline, Thanos docked Nebula and Gamora's Q-Ship onto the Sanctuary II. Inside the Sanctuary II, Ebony Maw discovered that another Nebula was now in their timeline, with Thanos discovering that his main timeline version had succeeded with the Snap and that the Avengers were in his timeline now to gather the Infinity Stones to resurrect the lives lost.

Inside the Sanctuary II, Nebula took Pym Particles from Nebula and presented them to Thanos, who passed the sample onto Ebony Maw for mass production, before she traveled to 2023 of the main timeline. Once there, she used the Quantum Tunnel to transport the Sanctuary II there through the Multiverse using the Quantum Realm. Emerging from the Quantum Tunnel, the Sanctuary II launched through the Avengers Compound's hangar, destroying the Quantum Tunnel and the hangar in the process.

The Sanctuary II fires airstrikes

On the verge of being killed by Wanda Maximoff, Thanos ordered Corvus Glaive to have the Sanctuary II fire its cannons on the ground in order to save himself. This bombardment of airstrikes stopped Maximoff, but it also destroyed a nearby dam and resulted in massive casualties among Thanos' own army.

Sanctuary II destroyed

The Sanctuary II destroyed by Captain Marvel

Shortly, the Sanctuary II detected the approach of Captain Marvel from space and directed its fire up at her as she arrived, but the energy cannons had no effect on her. She crashed through the Sanctuary II bow and wings, functionally destroying it and sending it crashing to the ground. What remained of the Sanctuary II was reduced to dust when Tony Stark, using the Infinity Stones, killed Thanos and his army.[3]

Capabilities[]

Thanos & Gamora (Argument - Sanctuary II)

Thanos confronting Gamora about her past in the ship's throne room

The Sanctuary II was a one-ship fleet, heavily armed and well supported. At least four Q-Ships could dock with it at a time in two massive bays located under its lower wings. The ship also contained a massive throne room within it for Thanos' use. It also contained detention rooms, such as the one Thanos used to detain Nebula after her failed attempt to assassinate him.

Just like most of Thanos' equipment, the Sanctuary II seems to be assembled from a combination of organic and mechanical components. This is demonstrated by the ship's appearance, wherein the hull appears to be constructed out of rock material within which mechanical components such as its offensive and propulsion systems are integrated. The Sanctuary II was armed with very powerful heavy laser cannons capable of decimating a planet with ease.

The ship could also hold a multitude of Leviathans, Chitauri Chariots, and Necrocrafts as well, which could be deployed from under its hull. It also contained hundreds of thousands of Chitauri, Sakaarans, and Outriders, along with hundreds of Outrider Dropships, and Chitauri Tanks.
