The Infiltration into Zephyr One was a planned takeover by Sarge's Squad to take Zephyr One and leave Earth's atmosphere before they were caught in the explosion from a Atom Bomb that was about to destroy a Shrike Tower and its creator, Izel. After the tower was destroyed, but the explosive didn't go off, Izel fled in the Lazy Comet, causing Sarge to change tactics and force S.H.I.E.L.D. to chase after her.
Background[]
Despite having been previously been captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Melinda May and imprisoned in the Lighthouse, Sarge was able to negotiate his release in exchange for information about a way to kill the Shrike that threatened to destroy the Zephyr One.[3] S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Alphonso Mackenzie agreed to let Sarge regain control of his truck and to resume his hunt for Izel with Snowflake, but refused to release the other members of Sarge's crew, instead having them replaced with May, Daisy Johnson and Deke Shaw.
Once the truck left, Mackenzie decided to follow it, bringing along the remaining members of Sarge's squad, Jaco and Pax, who were respectively placed in a Containment Module and put in chains. Despite Pax managing to kill agent Phelps, the two of them remained prisoners thanks to Yo-Yo Rodriguez. Meanwhile, Sarge had revealed his plan to destroy both Izel and the Shrike Tower that she had her Shrike create: detonate an Atom Bomb. He managed to distract the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents long enough to escape the truck, abandoning the agents and Snowflake to be killed in the blast.[4]
Infiltration[]
Using the Spray Paint Transporter, Sarge drew a portal on the top of his truck, which was connected to another portal traced on Jaco's coat, while his truck was automatically driving to the Shrike Tower, with the collision being meant to detonate the Atom Bomb. This enabled Sarge to be directly transported inside the Zephyr One, where he killed a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and found Jaco still locked up in his Containment Module and Pax put in chains.[4] Informing them that he had been forced to leave Snowflake behind, Sarge released them and gave them Shelter Charges to be deployed as a countermeasure to Yo-Yo Rodriguez's superhuman speed.
Jaco and Sarge then proceeded to attack the bridge, wounding agent Diaz in the process. Sarge handcuffed Alphonso Mackenzie and took control of the plane, threatening to kill Diaz if Mackenzie did not comply while Jaco deployed the Shelter Charges. He then ordered agent James Davis to turn the Zephyr One away in order to avoid being caught in the blast's radius. However, Sarge realized that his bomb had not detonated, since the explosion had actually been blocked by Daisy Johnson. Since the SHrike Tower had still been destroyed when the truck had crashed in it, the Lazy Comet in which was Izel began to fly away from Earth, prompting Sarge to order Davis to follow it.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez had found out that the prisoners had escaped. Using her superhuman speed and her combat skills, she was able to confront and defeat Pax, who had been left to take control of the engine's room. Rodriguez gagged him, and used her speed to bring him in front of the energy barrier created by the Shelter Charge at the bridge. She then pushed him against the barrier, heavily burning him, which successfully persuaded Jaco to disable the Shelter Charge and come to his rescue, although Sarge ordered him otherwise. During the brief moment the charge was no longer active, Rodriguez was able to give Mackenzie the key to his cuffs. Meanwhile, Sarge killed the wounded Pax, then reactivated the charge and ordered Jaco to find Rodriguez.
On the bridge, the Zephyr One was able to make contact with the Lazy Comet. Sarge and Izel then argued over his hatred for her, leaving Sarge quite angered by their conversation. Mackenzie decided to add a little more pressure and taunted Sarge about the failure of his plan. He then attacked Sarge by surprise, causing the two of them to engage in a violent and brutal fight from which Mackenzie was victorious. Sarge was then surprised upon realizing that Rodriguez had convinced Jaco to turn on him and to join S.H.I.E.L.D.'s side instead, before being knocked unconscious Mackenzie, enabling S.H.I.E.L.D. to regain full control of the plane.[5]
Aftermath[]
- "Take me with you. I've spent years tracking Izel, studying her every move... all for a chance like this. I have to do this. You don't understand what you're up against."
"You're right. And that's why we're bringing Jaco along. But thanks anyways." - ―Sarge and Yo-Yo Rodriguez[src]
Sarge was placed in the Zephyr One's Containment Module, where he regained consciousness as S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to infiltrate the Lazy Comet in order to find Izel and to rescue agents Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons, who had turned out to be aboard the spacecraft as well. Sarge insisted that he should come since he had extensive knowledge of Izel's tactics, but S.H.I.E.L.D. refused to trust him and declared that they would bring along Jaco, as his experience as a former member of Sarge's crew could be valuable for the mission.[5]
