Multiverse Discovered
"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as "Celestial Invader Ego".

"Since we lost Hope's mom, our home hasn't felt the same either. And to be honest, neither have I. The pain, the anger, the loneliness. I know it can feel like you're drowning in it, but I haven't, and you don't have to either, so long as you let the people around you pull you out."
―Hank Pym to Peter Quill[src]

Doctor Henry Jonathan "Hank" Pym is an entomologist and physicist who developed the Ant-Man Suit after discovering the Pym Particles. For a time, he worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. as a consultant and became the superhero Ant-Man, fighting beside his own wife, Janet van Dyne. However, during one mission, Ant-Man witnessed his wife disappear from him, seemingly dying, resulting in Pym retiring as Ant-Man and leaving S.H.I.E.L.D.. A few years later, he retook his superhero mantle and joined a group of individuals with extraordinary abilities founded by S.H.I.E.L.D. to combat against the Celestial Ego and his son Peter Quill in their attempt to terraform Earth, during which Ant-Man persuaded Quill to stop his father's attack on the planet. Venturing off into outer space to try and defeat Ego for good, Pym and his friends became founding members of the Avengers.

"And you're gonna be the crusty guy."
―Ant-Man and Wendy Lawson[src]

While at home with Hope van Dyne, Ant-Man received a call from Howard Stark, so he immediately hung up. Stark rang again and told Ant-Man to check the news, where he discovered that there had been an alien that crash landed on Earth. Ant-Man decided to help and boarded the plane sent by Stark.

Ant-Man with his new team

Ant-Man was forced to bring his daughter to the base, where he was reunited with Stark, Peggy Carter, and Goliath. Ant-Man also met Black Panther, Winter Soldier and Wendy Lawson, who were all on the team assembled by S.H.I.E.L.D. to prevent the invasion from spreading and destroying the planet.

"Well, lucky for us, we have one in custody."
Thor and Ant-Man[src]

Locking Peter Quill in a S.H.I.E.L.D. Detention Cell, Ant-Man then listed to Thor's explanations regarding Ego's Expansion, presenting the celestial seedling to them that he found in Missouri. Thor revealed that the only way to destroy the seedling was with a celestial, which Ant-Man pointed out they had one locked up currently.

Ant-Man finds out his daughter freed Peter Quill

However, Ant-Man realized that his daughter had stolen his keycard and Pym Particles to release Quill due to having befriended him. Ant-Man learned that Quill was heading to Missouri and that he had been influenced by his father Ego. Ant-Man promised his daughter that the team would help Quill instead of trying to kill him. Ant-Man was flown by Wendy Lawson to the Missouri graveyard where Quill's mother was buried, while the rest of the team left to confront Ego who had landed on Earth.[2]

Befriending Peter Quill[]

Hank hugs Quill

Ant-Man shares a hug with Peter Quill

"Peter, come back with us. Please. Come join our family."
―Hank Pym to Peter Quill[src]

Knowing that they would not be able to win Peter Quill to their side through the use of brute force, Ant-Man gently approached him and listened to the boy expressing his loneliness. Ant-Man then shared his own feeling to get closer to Quill, detailing how he felt since his wife was gone and how the event had changed him, and offered to help Quill provide the support he needed. He then shared a hug with Quill, who agreed to join the Avengers.

Ant-Man and Peter Quill confront Ego

With this new ally at his side, Ant-Man was able to come to assist his teammates in the Battle of Mojave Desert. Attacking at small size while riding an ant, they infiltrated the gigantic Ego-shaped mountain created by the Celestial and confronted Ego himself, leading to his destruction at the hands of Quill. In the aftermath of the blast, Ant-Man found Quill and hugged him once again to express his gratitude.[2]

New Mission[]

Ant-Man announces that he will go with Thor

"Perhaps you forgot, Goldilocks, we have sort of a team thing going on here."
―Hank Pym to Thor[src]

In order to celebrate the victory, Ant-Man invited his allies - minus the Winter Soldier, who had defected - to his house, where he struggled to cook a decent meal. As Thor revealed that he planned to track down Ego's planet to destroy him once and for all, Ant-Man reminded him that they were supposed to work as a team, embarking the Avengers for their next mission.[2]

Personality[]

Having lost his Janet van Dyne left Ant-Man disillusioned with S.H.I.E.L.D., but he nevertheless did his best to raise his daughter Hope on his own, as he profoundly loved her. Even though he had left his colleagues in pretty bad terms, Ant-Man remained willing to act to protect the Earth from global threats, and as such he quickly accepted to help S.H.I.E.L.D. after Howard Stark contacted him.

As demonstrated by his conversation with Peter Quill, Ant-Man felt a strong loneliness after his wife went missing. However, he realized that he could find support and solace from other people and that he had to let his loved ones help him, something he then taught Quill to get him out of his own sorrow.

This enabled him to attack opponents while remaining undetected, as he did with Peter Quill, and later to slip through the cracks of the massive stone structure manifested by Ego.
  • EMP Communication Device Capabilities: Ant-Man owned a complex portable device which enabled him to give instructions to the ants he controlled.
    • Insect Manipulation: Using his device, Ant-Man was able to control a massive swarm of flying ants directed at Peter Quill. He could also flawlessly direct his personal ant-mount.

Hope van Dyne to Hank Pym[src]

  • Ant-Man Suit: An advanced technological suit that most notably enabled Ant-Man to manipulate his size, being able to use it for infiltration missions.
  • Pym Particles: Pym used these special subatomic particles to manipulate his size as well as elements around him.
  • EMP Communication Device: A communication device used by Ant-Man to communicate with ants, giving them instructions to aid him during his missions.
