This still-unnamed entity is the embodiment of the Second Cosmos and first Multiverse.[2] He was born from the shattered pieces of the First Firmament, the original universe, following the Celestial War. The Celestials had desired the cosmos itself to evolve, die, and change; thus, unlike the First Firmament, the Second Cosmos "aged."[1]
With his eventual death, the first time the Multiverse died, he was replaced by the Sentience of the Third Cosmos. This was the first multiversal cycle.[1][2][3][4]
History
The embodiment of the Second Cosmos and the first Multiverse was born from the shattered pieces of the First Firmament, the personification of the very first universe, in the final moments of the Celestial War.[1]
This Multiverse, however, would live for a mere millennium, as its only constant was the new — thus, it was too excited to experience the exciting new sensation of all-death.[4] As it was part of its renewal cycle (a recurrent process in which the Multiverse dies and is reborn in a new embodied form),[1] the embodiment of the Second Cosmos went to the ethereal location known as the Far Shore,[2] giving way for a new personification of the Multiverse to rise in its place.[1] The remnants of the Second Cosmos became an unobservable space outside the following reborn Multiverses.[4]
During the Eternity War, the Second Cosmos was summoned alongside its successors by Eternity to thwart the plans of the First Firmament, who sought to reclaim his position as everything that is. After the First Firmament was restrained, the Cosmoses took him to the Next Place, where they planned to heal him.[2]Notes
- Even though this personification of the Multiverse is not given a name in any of his appearances to date, he is referred to as the "Second Cosmos" in Ultimates 2 (Vol. 2) #6 and again in Ultimates 2 #100. For the archivist purposes of the Marvel Database, it will be used as the page name until a name is given.
Trivia
- The Second Cosmos was the originator of something called the "Omega Force."[2]
