After Jean Grey became Phoenix full-time, Scott Summers married Madelyne Pryor and settled down to raise their son Nathaniel . With the Avengers taking care of world-level threats, Scott and Maddy were left to help with bank robberies and natural disasters.
In the twenty-fifth year of his parents' marriage, Nathaniel surprised his family by announcing his intent to marry Amiko, daughter of Logan and Mariko. On the day of the engagement party, Jean unexpectedly showed up in the company of five Variants of Logan from different universes, looking for an alternate reality Onslaught. With the help of Magik she tracked it to Savage Land, but that turned out to be a trap and Magik was incapacitated. Jean then realized that Onslaught was targeting those close to her and accused Madelyne, but Onslaught was in fact hiding in Nathaniel and was able to ambush her. With him about to become all-powerful by stealing her Phoenix Force, Wolverine from Earth X made the tough choice and cut off Nathaniel's arm. The shock caused Onslaught to flee, but Nathaniel was about to die from blood loss until Warlock patched his wound with his Techno-Organic Virus. Nathaniel awoke in severe pain, and Jean offered her help in managing it, but Madelyne told her to leave and Scott stood by his wife.[1]
