Egalmoth fu un uomo della stirpe dei Dúnedain di Gondor che visse durante la Terza Era. Nipote di Morwen, zia di Ecthelion I, succedette al cugino nel 2698 TE divenendo il XVIII Sovrintendente Regnante di Gondor della Casa di Húrin. Alla sua morte nel 2743 TE gli succedette il figlio Beren.
Etimologia[]
Il nome Egalmoth sembra essere di origine Sindarin ma il suo significato non è molto chiaro: può essere inteso come "Dalle Ampie Spalle" oppure come "Fiore Nascente". Fu chiamato così probabilmente in onore dell'eroe Noldor che visse a Gondolin durante la Prima Era.
Biografia[]
Egalmoth nacque nel 2626 TE a Minas Tirith durante il regno del suo prozio Orodreth da sua sorella Morwen. Succedette al cugino Ecthelion I alla morte di questi avvenuta nel 2698 TE. Durante il suo regno Gondor fu attaccato da orde di Orchi provenienti dalle Montagne Nebbiose e da Mordor. Nel 2710 TE Re Déor di Rohan chiese aiuto al Sovrintendente per cacciare i Dunlandiani dalla fortezza di Isengard, ma non potevano portare soccorso ai Rohirrim in quanto sotto attacco da parte degli Haradrim a sud. Egalmoth morì nel 2743 TE all'età di 117 anni e suo figlio Beren divenne Sovrintendente.
