The movie marketed itself as a gangster drama but jumps around romance and family plotlines with little to no emotional connection. The movie ends up being underwhelming, despite the stylish execution.

]]>Positives: Cowbob, brilliant visuals, good action choreography and music
Negatives: Story lacks the punch, suffers from cliches, one good scene is followed by 2-3 dragged scenes. Very weak worldbuilding, so the story itself doesn't feel immersive. Overall doesn't leave much impact.

]]>Even I need to start journaling in the most badass way possible
Thursday, October 31st.
The Letterboxd logs are crowded for the holiday. Even with the festival. And I am there too.
Watching.
2 years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal. I must choose my movies carefully.
It's a big watchlist. I can't watch everything. But they don't know what I am doing.
Movies, series, books - 2 years later they're all up. These cinephiles are eating themselves. Maybe they can't be saved, but I have to try. PUSH MYSELF.
These nights roll together in a rush, behind the online presence. Sometimes in the morning, I have to force myself to review everything that I watched.
]]>I wanted to rewatch SVSC after watching Meiyazhagan, and also that Karthi mentioned SVSC in an interview and spoke about human connections.
I always wondered why this movie was called Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu. I mean, that's a lovely title, but why particularly put Anjali's name and what exactly does the tree name signify?
Before Mari Antaga song starts, Relangi Mawayya says to Seetha, "Nee tarvathe evaraina" and holds her above the rest of his family. Seetha is the pillar of the family. She knows everything about everyone in the family. She is the connection between the two families and that's why you can see her in both the family cards in the intro. And that's why she is the only character mentioned in the title.
In the first scene, the grandma narrates the backstory of the tree and says, "Everyone needs to do such a good deed before passing away". That's the entire point of the movie.
Relangi Mawayya sets an example for this by risking his life to save a total stranger. This brings a change in Thanikella Bharani's Kondal Rao and Kota Srinivasa Rao gari characters. And in the climax, Peddhodu and Chinnodu risk their lives to save those affected by the stampede and short circuit. This reinforces Relangi Mawayya's point and acts as an eye opener for Rao Ramesh's character.
I noticed a lot of parallels. For example, Relangi Mawayya talks to every passing guy in his intro with a smile. But Peddhodu intro lo he doesn't wish back those people who say good morning to him. Instead, he criticises them back with his pessimistic POV. Chinnodu just blends in with the people around him and is a smooth talker, unlike his father and brother. This is a proper setup for the eventual climax payoff.
Ee janmake veedu neeku annayya. Ee janmake nuvvu veedi thammudu. Ee janmake Mee iddharu anna thammullu. 🥹🥹 Reminded me of Meiyazhagan where the uncle says ee janmake manam bava bammardhulam and starts crying over the strained relationships within their family.
SVSC and Meiyazhagan will stand the test of time.
]]>Could've (and should've) ended in the first half

]]>A solid debut by the director. The screenplay falters here and there, but is mostly engaging till the end because of the performances.
]]>Karthi in feel good movies is my favourite genre
]]>From that shot where Ajay comes out of the phone booth to the scene where Ajay pushes Obul Reddy into a pool of mud followed by Sahasam Swasaga Saagipo song, 20 minutes of mass hysteria. No loud BGMs, no excessive violence, no punch dialogues. Pure heroism on display. In the era of rival faction families, slashing violence, mass heroes, Okkadu showed what actual heroism is. Just a common man doing what's right. And behold, I can confidently say it aged much better than most of it's contemporaries (or should I say all).
And I wanted to speak about the editing and cinematography, man. Just wow. The tension buildup in Konda Reddy Buruju scene, I can write an essay on it. Movie motham mostly natural lighting ey untundhi, except for night shots, but still, the framing was nothing short of brilliant. The landscape shots were just 🤌🏻🛐.
And actually, the songs come at right places. Hero intro ki Hare Rama, Heroine intro ki Ye Maaya Chesavo, Sahasam Swasaga Saagipo after action block, Cheppave Chirugali to console Swapna, Hay hay re as imagination and Attarintiki to mock Obul Reddy.
Telugu Commercial Cinema lo Okkadu sthanam veru.
]]>The way this movie deceived everyone until the end. Sukumar is the real deal, pulled the beasts out of Charan and DSP.
]]>This was actually a lot better than I remember. Noticed all the subtle nuances Sukumar added to the storytelling. Allu Arjun, no words man, absolutely phenomenal. Remove the Srivalli track and this is an extraordinary crime drama. Hyped for Pushpa 2.

Alluri Seetha Ramaraju is the best character played by Babu. Agree or velli Brahmotsavam chudu.
]]>Relatable at certain parts but I don't know if I will ever rewatch it
]]>This movie gets unnecessary hate because of the next movies in the message verse. Considering the time it was released, this movie subverted many commercial cinema tropes.
Generally appati daaka multiple comedians and loud badass heroes unde commercial movies (Dookudu, Baadshah, Race Gurram, Gabbar Singh, Mirchi etc.) lo introvert main character ni petti bore kottakunda theeyadame is an achievement. This was a fresh subject for its time.
This movie might age poorly with time, but I still love it.
]]>Ok, first things first, I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't that good, but it wasn't that bad either.
Positives:
NTR - as usual pekadesadu, mainly as father Devara
Anirudh Bgm - vanekka mental ekkinchadu
Interval fight mathram peaks, NTR narakadam is CINEMA
Negatives:
The story is plain stupid and predictable. Doesn't really make sense if you sit and think about it for 2 minutes.
Lot of characters are wasted.
I honestly don't see a sequel potential.
Visuals are a hit or miss.
Leki love track
