Gorgeously creative and slick animation, some genuinely sharp and subversive writing and a tight balance between the funny and the emotional make Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse a real treat.
Strong voices performances across the board and excellent direction allows Spider-Verse to fire on every cylinder. Well, almost every cylinder. That 121 minute runtime really weight it down, with a 20 minute sticky patch smack-bang in the middle that comes close to stopping the film completely, dead in its tracks. It’s a long film and it unfortunately feels like a long film. With such beautiful visuals, it’s never a chore to endure, I just wish the pacing was as tight as the dialogue and direction.
Oh, and do stay for the mid-credit scene. My heaaaaarrtt. (There’s a post-credit sequence too that more seasoned comic book fans will love up as well).
