A film that deserves my Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde approach!
Dr. Jekyll Review:
Jimmy Stewart is the cherry on top of Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life" sundae! A heartwarming Classic that decades later became a sentimental favorite Christmas tradition!
Mr. Hyde Review:
Sickeningly sweet to the point it could put you in a diabetic coma one minute and the next minute George is verbally and mentally abusing his children, wife, and a teacher as well as her husband!
Next minute George is drunker than a skunk and driving while intoxicated, eventually crashing into a tree! Oh yes and lets not forget he contemplates suicide!
It is filled with many other Christmassy moments like Pharmacist Gower accidentally filling a prescription with enough poison to kill an elephant! George's father has a stroke and dies!
Lets not forget the slumlord whom owns the whole town and makes it his priority in life to make the lives of the working class and the poor miserable!
And if George never existed the town would become a haven for Strip joints and Violet would become a stripper! Talking about all this seedy and sordid stuff has given me an early Christmas rush!
Naughty's Final Take:
Should have been titled "It's an Unwholesome Life"
Ultimately I like the film because it is the polar opposite of a wholesome film! I am flabbergasted that this has been deemed a Christmas staple and it is beyond me how anyone could call a film as dark and unsavory as this a family film!
I had no idea Frank Capra was such a wickedly delicious lil devil!
