I can watch anything! I can watch mutilations, decapitations, and other abominations without batting an eye! Much to my surprise I discovered something I can't watch when I tackled this film!
When push came to shove and I got up close and personal with the atrocities inflicted on slaves my heart grew heavy and I honestly felt sickened by the inhumanity that unfolded on the screen!
This is not a film I will turn to again any time soon and I don't mean that in a bad way! It is just an extremely difficult watch! I just shook my head in disgust when I realized it wasn't that long ago in our history when the events in this film were considered acceptable! The thought of that just makes my blood run cold!
Steve McQueen proves once again he is a formidable contender! Chiwetel Ejiofor gave one hell of an electrifying performance!
Sadly society hasn't improved all that much.. basically swapped out plantations for prisons for profit! With a corrupt justice system bent on keeping those profit margins in the red and taking away from those they exploit the right to vote!
