Fuera de serie: Sexy Fangs, Funny Faces & Reservoir Wolves
At the end of the day, this is nothing more than Spartacus but with werewolves and vampires. And you know what, I like it.
In spite of the fact that this time the franchise focuses more on narrative than on action, as I have mentioned so far, the premise and lore are interesting enough to stand on their own as the movie proves in the end. The whole backstabbing and even the fact that these werewolves are a product of the vampires as a sort of hound dogs, almost like pets, was a nice twist that the film handled very well.
As for the performances, everyone does a good job, especially Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy. Something I always forgot in my previous two reviews was my adoration for Bill, particularly his facial expressions who are just fantastic. I mean, the faces he makes are certainly not terrifying, but they add a lot to the unintentional humor of the film. On the other hand, Sheen treats this almost like a Shakespearean tragedy, and in contrast to Bill's performance, there is this ying yang effect that pervades the film in which some people are in on the joke and others take it very seriously.
All in all, if your favorite thing about this franchise is the action and Kate Beckinsale, and you have no interest in the lore, then this movie will bore you. However, if you a melodramatic and soapy story with vampires and werewolves is your thing, then you'll have a great time.
