One thing I absolutely like about Nolan is how he fantastically manages to build intensity like no other. No matter how late you are to the experience, don’t miss it. You don’t always see Nolan exceeding expectations and his own craft, specially through a biopic film.
Where do I even begin? This was one of my most anticipated films of 2023 and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. I’m absolutely blown away by how hermetic the editing and pacing of Oppenheimer is. A visceral tour de force -- visually, sonically and cerebrally where not a spare second isn’t packed with punch, twists and serpentine themes of theory versus reality in a way that I can’t convey how riveted and captured I was for three damn hours. The cinematography was absolutely standout, so was the triumphant sound design and score, along with the master screenplay and the chilling dialogues, I already consider this film an instant classic.
The cast excels on every level you can imagine -- I was particularly astonished by Emily Blunt and Matt Damon. But RDJ’s interpretation of Strauss was especially my favorite, I barely blinked during his performance in the last hour. And of course, I can’t begin to explain how happy I am to finally see Cillian Murphy being the lead actor in a Nolan film after what felt like forever: He was a stellar by all means, exuding a reserved performance with so much detail and depth.
Oppenheimer is a sombre and ominous cinematic hit with a notable psychological angle that’ll leave you flabbergasted. I don’t think it can be trivialized how compelling and eloquent the last scene between Einstein and Oppenheimer explicitly was -- a gut-wrenching yet numbing conversation that’ll for sure haunt me for the rest of my life.
