I was looking forward for this movie for months, Neon did a phenomenal job creating a viral marketing campaign that truly captivated me, and really shot this movie to my top of most anticipated movies. The movie lived up to my expectations and hype for most part.
Honestly i couldn't find the right words to describe what i am feeling earlier. It is a movie that will stick with you long after the credits roll, it is a haunting, unsettling, and atmospheric that crawls under your skin. Filled with strong images and fantastic performance by the cast, Maika Monroe is fantastic.
I feel the movie falls on itself towards the end, and the ending was very weak, i liked the twist. I feel like i missed a lot of details that i need to focus on in second rewatch.
I need to rewatch again to catch all the devils in the movie, i was able to find 6 first watch.
I think the weakness of the movie comes from the twist being a bit convoluted and i felt the movie teased more stuff than it actually showed, and the lore needed to be explored more.
The strength of the movie is that it doesn't rely on jump scares but rather on filling you with dread and hopelessness, the subliminal messages are effective, and the jump scares that are present are very well executed.
