“Oh! There she is! The almost-birthday girl!” - Longlegs
Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs is a horror thriller film. The film follows an FBI agent, tracking an occultist serial killer, the titular “Longlegs.” The film stars Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, and Dakota Daulby.
The film’s talented ensemble cast led by Monroe and Cage all gives unsettling, frantic, suspenseful, exhilarating, harrowing performances. This is easily Cage’s creepiest role to date in his filmography. Monroe is excellent and mothered so hard in this film. The screenplay keeps you on the edge of your seat and genuinely haunting, the film truly feels like a modern day The Silence of the Lambs (1991) akin with FBI Agent Lee Harker and Longlegs’ relationship. The ending and the final frame is utter insanity. The film is nightmare fuel but well-done. The cinematography and score is stunning. Longlegs is definitely my favorite horror film of the year and lived up to the superb marketing and hype.
