  • Ruby Sparks

    Ruby Sparks

    ★★½

    Pffft.

  • Home Alone

    Home Alone

    ★★★★

According to IMDB, Home Alone is screened every Christmas in Poland and in 2011 attracted 5 million viewers, making it the most watched thing on TV over the entire Christmas period.

    Poland is awesome.

  • Yogi's First Christmas

    Yogi's First Christmas

    ★★★★★

    Like Citizen Kane, only better.

  • Berberian Sound Studio

    Berberian Sound Studio

    ★★★★

It's not a horror film - it's a Santini film. Berberian Sound Studio becomes somewhat incoherent toward the end, but you can't help but admire Toby Jones' performance, the incredible sound design and the look of the film. Highly recommended.

  • Don't Look Now

    Don't Look Now

    ★★★½

I just found it a bit unengaging. I appreciate it's all symbolic and stuff, but I'm not very bright. Therefore, the three stars is more an assessment of my intelligence than the quality of the film. The extra half star is for the awesome 'tache Donald Sutherland rocks throughout.

  • Cloverfield

    Cloverfield

    ★★★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Enjoyably silly monster mayhem that you've probably all seen. Coming at it four years after release, and therefore without the benefit of all the viral marketing malarky that went with it, it's hard to see why there was quite so much excitement about Cloverfield. However, it rattles along at a fair clip, the creature design is good and while I didn't enjoy it as much as, say, The Host, it's a good way to spent 85 minutes. Plus it has a splendidly downbeat ending.

  • Return of the Jedi

    Return of the Jedi

    ★★★★★

Deep down I know it's probably not as good as the first two, but it's the first Star wars film I saw at the cinema as an impressionable 7 year old and therefore completely beyond any sensible criticism. Sorry.

  • Zatoichi

    Zatoichi

    ★★★

There's much to like, including some fantastic choreography (both sword and dance-related!) and some of the performances are great. But it all just felt a little un-engaging and anti-climactic. As many have said, the CGI blood is not good. And I don't believe Takeshi when he says it was deliberately like that to lessen the impact of the violence.

  • The Aristocats

    The Aristocats

    ★★★½

Enjoyable late-classic-period Disney. If anything, the soundtrack issn't swinging enough! It's pretty slight and all over in 74 minutes but what's there is most entertaining.

  • Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous

Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous

    ★★★

Can't help but like it, probably because the first one is such a guilty pleasure.

  • The Empire Strikes Back

    The Empire Strikes Back

    ★★★★★

Can't find the button for six stars. See previous review of Star Wars for more.

  • Star Wars

    Star Wars

    ★★★★★

I can't possibly attempt to critically appraise Star Wars. Trying to write a review of Star Wars is like trying to write a review of one of your own children.
