Firsy time seeing Longlegs since the cinema and it's definitely even more satisfying on a rewatch; once you know the outcome and can just focus on all the small details you might have missed the first time. I still believe it’s not particularly scary or a true horror film, but rather a deeply compelling psychological thriller.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s review of The Watcher, Maika Monroe is undoubtedly one of the most talented actresses working today, particularly in the horror/thriller space. She expresses so much through her body language and facial expressions, proving her skill without relying on her dialogue to provide an impactful performance.
Once again, I was struck by the impressive lighting, framing, and cinematography. The film is filled with beautiful wide shots, slow zooms, and clever use of reflections. The camera feels as though it’s constantly creeping, as if danger is always looming just out of view.
Besides those thoughts, not much new to add since my first watch. Nic Cage is wildly entertaining and unpredictable, the sound design really effectively builds tension, and the plot carries shades of Zodiac and Silence of the Lambs.
At no point did the film lose my full attention; definitely one that improves with each viewing. A brilliantly creepy look at generational trauma, sheltered upbringings and unresolved childhood issues.
