Emma Stone stunning! Ryan Gosling stunning!
I felt called out 40 minutes in when Gosling says "You hate jazz?!" but in my situation it's musicals. I've just never been able to get into musicals but I must say, the more this movie went on the more and more I fell in love with it. I still didn't love the big musical bits nor the big dance numbers but I appreciate them. I did love the audition performance and some of Gosling's performances as they felt more authentic. The big musical at the start is just something I really don't like and I'm not sure why, I also don't love plays (I wasn't a theatre kid). But regardless of that I found this film to be pretty fucking fantastic. I mean the cinematography is on another level, every scene is gorgeous and so nice to get lost in. The outfits, colors, beautiful lights and set pieces are spectacular. I really want to go back to Los Angeles right now. I love how passionately Gosling talks about jazz when he brought Stone to the jazz club, that's basically me talking to people about Wes Anderson or photography. I can't get over how Stone's character settled for some John Cena x Jonn Hamm looking dude over Gosling...
This helped me appreciate musicals more and I will be back for multiple rewatches.
