Walt Disney Animation Ranked
Re-visiting this movie was an absolute joy. The Lion King excels in practically every aspect. The voice cast is perfect with a stellar performance from James Earl Jones in particular. The animation is beautiful, and some of Disney's best work. The worldbuilding as we explore the savannah and lands beyond is continually interesting, and creative. The movie's also hilarious, and includes two of the greatest comedic relief characters ever; Pumbaa and Timon. The little love story that's worked in with only a couple minutes is touching and heartfelt. There's multiple exciting and thrilling scenes; chases, fights, fires, mazes filled with bones. There's never a dull moment. The villain is one of the most memorable and best in all of Disney. Scar is such a cold name all on its own. The soundtrack is simply spectacular, which includes banger after banger and songs that you can't not sing along too. And at its core, The Lion King tells the classic coming of age story to perfection. There's the tragic loss in one of the most devastating scenes in cinematic history, followed by a period of self-growth, then a pivotal character change and reunion with the long lost parent, and it finally ends in a tense and suspenseful climax where Simba claims his place as king. What's not to like?
