I’m so elated that I really liked Beetlejuice Beetlejuice because the original is an all time favorite. Tim Burton and company did good by the ghost with the most! Although not as tight a film as Beetlejuice, this is a solidly fun time. This is how you do nostalgia right (unlike a certain alien film). Catherine O’Hara, once again, shows why she’s one of the best and funniest actresses ever. She elevates every scene in every movie she’s in. Everyone else was good as well, from the icon that is Winona Ryder to her movie daughter played by Jenna Ortega. And of course the bio-exorcist himself played by the great Michael Keaton. He slipped back in the role so effortlessly and seemed to be having the time of his life. The only superfluous character was the one played by Monica Bellucci. She wasn’t in the movie much and wasn’t a vital part of the story. The visuals were top notch and the use, once again, of tons of practical effects was hugely welcome. A big nostalgic highlight for me: Danny Elfman reinventing his classic theme during the opening credits. The music, visuals, and characters of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice were like a welcome home as well as a fun continuation of a unique world and story. Not bad for a solid sequel.
