Spider Man Into the Spiderverse. What a special movie. Well, it’s just special in general, but man does this mean so much to me. Truly a fantastic movie. One that has helped me throughout my life, especially through the end of Elementary school. Right now the movies that are really helping me and connecting me with friends are The Batman and The Dark Knight, but just a couple years ago this was that movie, and in some ways it still is.
This is a truly fantastic movie. Not only is the story fantastic, but the technical aspects are amazing as well. This movie has the greatest animation of all time. It’s so vibrant and unique. The way they actually managed to make this movie look like a moving comic book is astounding. This movie also has my favorite soundtrack of all time. Is it really that special? No, but the studio recorded songs made for this movie are so catchy and have been there for a good portion of my life. I have grown up and the soundtrack to this movie has been the soundtrack to my life, literally. The score slaps too. The movie is extremely fast paced and rewatchable, which is always a plus.
The main thing that makes the movie so great is the story and especially these characters. Miles Morales becomes more and more relatable the older I get. He feels like he has Great Expectations that he must live up to. Seeing him grow up and learn to accept who he truly is is such an amazing character arc that I doubt will be matched in the sequels. Peter B. Parker provides a lot of comedic relief to the story, but seeing his downfalls makes you relate to him in such a strange way. Kingpin has a truly traumatizing backstory, and even though it’s not explored too deeply it’s explored enough that you’re able to feel for him. Gwen, Peggy, Spider-Pig, and Spider-Noir all have great little backstories of their own as well (although I do think Gwen will be explored more moving forward). It’s just truly great character work for every single one of the characters, no matter how minor.
Overall this is a wonderful movie. It’s perfectly crafted and it means so much to me. The characters are amazing and some of the greatest of all time. The animation and music is truly mesmerizing and sucks you into the movie even more than the story itself does. This movie has helped me in so many ways for so long, and I don’t think that’s going to change, ever. This just a truly special movie.
