Arnav’s review published on Letterboxd:
I'll always remember witnessing that “What's Up Danger” scene in theaters for the first time. Literal chills. I mean, the entire thing was as cinematically infectious as you'd expect, but at the time, I had never experienced something like that in my life. I was just a kid, and that moment made me realize how life-changing cinema can be. From that moment foward, I went down a rabbit hole I'm still stuck in - and as you'd guess, I never want to leave. I adored it so much that I inevitably went to see the film again, and yeah, it still ruled. Since then I've seen it so many times that I genuinely can't count. It was my thing and I loved it. And it undoubtedly still is.
Seeing this today had me shaking. Not only because the contents of the film tend to do that, but because it's exactly five years since it released. I fell in love with cinema five years ago. Don't get me wrong, I always loved watching movies growing up, perhaps more so than others. But this film just made me think of cinema as something more - an artform. It hit especially hard considering how fast time went by. It feels like yesterday where my eyes were graced by this masterpiece for the first time. It's hard to believe yet so celebratory at the same time. With how re-watchable this film is, I had such a blast with it, even today. Every single aspect here is absolute perfection. The animation, the visuals, the voice-acting, the music, the atmosphere - it's all so tailor made for me that I struggle to accept it's existence. How can something this perfect be constructed with human hands? God, I just love it. Not many movies hit me like this one did years ago, and not many movies continue to do that today. It's rare to come across an animated movie that rivals Into The Spider-Verse (ironic how it's sequel is the only one to do so).
Happy fifth year anniversary to this exceptional piece of cinema. I am nothing but grateful for the passion this movie exposed me to. It's literally perfect, but you know that by now.
