    The main reasons I keep seeing as to why people dislike this movie so much are that it falls into the "white saviour" trope, and that it won the 1990 Best Picture Award against other movies that deserved it more. I pretty much disagree with both points which I will now proceed to rant about.

    this movie feels like how shoegaze sounds (shoegayz, if you will), in the same way that dreams often feel disjointed and foggy but still leave you with a really distinct feeling. i'm not sure yet what the feeling is though. i think pain.
