PHENOMENAL.
the wild robot has truly taken my breath away, i left the cinema speechless! what a tremendous achievement not only for animation but for storytelling as a WHOLE.
the wild robot is undoubtedly one of the best animated films i’ve seen in the last few years, and is arguably the best one to release this year. mark my words, dreamworks will be taking over animation before we know it. between this and puss and boots the last wish, if they continue to deliver high standard animated films like this they will easily have my attention. in my humble opinion this has got to be one of their best films to date, and i truly urge everyone to go and see this immediately! the wild robot was utterly gorgeous to witness on the big screen, and i’m definitely going back to see this again. all of the colours and the animation styles in general were simply jaw dropping making it one of the best looking films i’ve seen all year along with one of the best. i’m a huge sucker for animation films that have a very distinct and unique art style, and this ticked all of my boxes! the score for this film was fantastic and only fuelled my emotions almost bringing me to tears.
i haven’t read the wild robot so i was only going into this film having seen the trailer, and my god did this have a phenomenal story. i was so invested from the opening scene and loved following roz and the other characters! the cast were all fantastic and sounded amazing. i’m in desperate need of lupita nyong'o and pedro pascal to do more voice acting, they were absolutely made for these kinds of films. stephanie hsu who i also adore, only had a small role in this but she was such a standout! lupita nyong’o is one of my favourite actresses and having her voice roz was the smartest decision. although the other animals were able to portray more facial expressions, lupita while only using her voice was able to convey so many emotions! despite her being a robot. her voice is so gentle and calming and it added to roz being a great character. whilst the animals were calling her a “monster” it still didn’t stop her from being the kind hearted robot that she is! and it certainly didn’t stop her from completing her task and helping everyone, it was incredibly bittersweet and heartbreaking to watch.
i have absolutely no doubt that this will go down as an animated classic. these are the types of stories that i love to see and ones that are so important today. i’m so incredibly jealous of younger audiences being treated to such beauty like this, i hope they know how lucky they are! i really hope the wild robot is the front runner for best animated feature at the academy awards next year. i’m so blown away by how brilliant this was from start to finish. my younger cousin and i couldn’t stop talking about it all afternoon, that’s how you know it’s a certified success. a tear jerking heartfelt film and one i highly commend. five stars across the board.
