Not gonna lie, I secretly have a soft spot for this remake. YES…I know it’s terrible, but there’s something about these shamelessly uninspired spookfests from the early 2000’s that I find oddly satisfying. The glossy productions, the grungy soundtracks, the terrible CGI that’s supposed to be scary but just ends up being funny…Ahhh, the only other thing I need is a hot chocolate and a blanket and I’m in mediocrity heaven 😶🌫️

Whilst I don't think this film deserves its reputation as one of the worst films ever made, it's still pretty terrible. Much like the "Psycho" remake this film adds absolutely nothing or anything new to improve upon the core concepts of the original, and in nearly every aspect it does things slightly worse. The acting is slightly worse (with a couple of exceptions), the characters aren't as interesting, the cinematography tries to emulate the original, but ultimately fails, and the CGI is rubbish.
And whilst Carpenter's version wasn't particularly scary, it was effective with its tone and atmosphere creating a chilling campfire ghost story that was a lot of fun. This version tries to be more plot heavy; trying to…

Bevor jemand um die Ecke kommt und mich fragt, ob ich verrückt oder ein Masochist bin, lasst mich erklären, warum ich mir DAS HIER noch einmal angesehen habe.
Kürzlich sprach ich mit ein paar Freunden über Remakes, auf die niemand gewartet hat. Ich erwähnte auch DAS HIER, woraufhin einige sagten, sie hätten nicht einmal gewusst, dass dieser Film existiert. Glückliche Seelen! Sie fragten mich, warum der Film eigentlich so schlecht sei. Und wisst ihr was? Ich konnte diese Frage nicht beantworten, denn ich erinnerte mich an nichts, absolut nichts. Alles war wie in den dicksten Nebel gehüllt.
Niemand wird mir diese Frage wahrscheinlich je wieder stellen, aber für den Fall der Fälle habe ich den Film…
Sometimes you know a movie is bad because you’ve seen it already, but you have to watch it again because maybe it has aged well or maybe you were wrong about your original opinion.
Well, it didn’t and I wasn’t, but at least I tried!
Tom Welling is gorgeous and I spent many years ogling him on Smallville so it’s sad that this pretty much ruined his movie career. I love Selma Blair, truly love her, but even I can’t defend the choice to cast her as Stevie Wayne. I’m not sure anyone could fill those shoes because Adrienne Barbeau is so perfect in the original, but there had to be someone else with a smokier, sultry voice that was better for that part.
But still, it’s not a total loss because you do get to watch Tom just being super sexy. If he would have lost some clothes in that fog, this possibly could have been a winner!
Hmmm, I wonder if this will be a decent remake with care and consideration for fans of the original that keeps the creepy vibes while providing an update in the effects department with more effective scares.

One of those movies you’re sure you’ve seen before but the further you get into it the more you realize you remember absolutely nothing about it. To make matters worse this is a remake so all I could think about was Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Carpenter’s score, Cundey’s cinematography… yeah don’t make the same mistake I did, just watch the original.
I’ve never hated this movie as much as most do but when you watch this back to back with the original the difference in quality does stand out. One thing I do like quite a bit here is Selma Blair as Stevie Wayne. I think she does a good job.
I actually wouldn’t mind hollywood taking another crack at remaking The Fog. Anything that comes close to Carpenter’s version but has todays visual effects would be a win in my opinion.

Yo quería ver la original de Carpenter, pero terminé viendo esta mierda.
Es una película pésima en muchos sentidos, y estoy molesto porque yo creí que iba a ver The Fog de 1980, pero al final vi está cosa aburridisima y espantosamente mal hecha. No es una película del todo horrible, pero creo que solo estoy molesto por que fui engañado (más bien no revisé bien y al final me quedé viendo esta porquería hasta el final porque creí que habría algo minimamente interesante).
No odio con toda mi alma a esta película, pero aún así es una terrible película en casi todos los aspectos.

A total and complete butchering of John Carpenter's underrated horror classic, The Fog is one of the most boring and pitiful remakes I've ever had the misfortune of having to sit through, all thanks to abysmal CGI, cheap attempts at scares, poor acting (even from talented actors like Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, and Selma Blair), lifeless direction, nonsensical storytelling, and cardboard-cutout characters.
