On an average day, Greg's life is filled with family, love and a rambunctious little dog - but despite all of this, Greg has a secret. Today is different, though. With some help from his precocious pup, and a little bit of magic, Greg might learn that he has nothing to hide.
It's nice to see something made by Disney actually tackle LGBT+ themes directly rather than just going "hey we're inclusive, there's a gay couple in the background of one shot for 5 frames!" But it's nice in addressing the fear and anxiety of coming out to parents and overcoming that fear by knowing your parents will still accept and love you... in some cases. Unfortunately that's not always how it goes, but having that light of hope in a short like this that it's going to be okay once you come out is a heartwarming sentiment.
Anyways, they make it really fun here, the whole body swap idea leads to some fun antics, the animation style is lovely as is the music. It's really good!
Disney finally realized it could have gay representation on their platform if they just do what they do with every other minority character - make them an animal for most of the runtime.
(but fr this was really cute actually, I liked it!)
This touched me very deeply. I am married to a man who is not out to his family, due to cultural reasons. As a result, his family doesn't even know I exist. While this is easy to manage because they live in a different country, it still breaks my heart to see him only able to be himself with me. This short gives me hope that one day his situation may improve, and he might be able to find the courage to tell them who he is, and he will be accepted and loved and no longer have to live his life in the shadows.
LGBTQ+ people: Hey Disney can we have literally any gay representation in any of your franchises
Disney: Sure gays, you get to have a short on our streaming service many of you won't have access to where the main character never actually says the word gay and turns into a literal dog most of the time. Also, you get pretty rainbow animals that sound stereotypically gay that add literally nothing.
This is such a great short! I’m really proud of Disney for making this and it’s so good. I love the art style. It’s really heartwarming. However I think it should’ve been a feature film. I feel like the only reason it isn’t is because Disney doesn’t want to take any risks or something stupid like that. This would’ve been better as a full length film but whatever. Hopefully Disney makes a LGBT movie one day...soon but that probably won’t be happening for a very long day. Just take a risk Disney! You’ll be making more happy people that angry! So what a bunch of angry moms will try to ban it? Who cares! Oh and actually make it a good movie. Don’t just make it for the sakes of making it. Hope you listening to me Disney😘
Wheezy is now canonically the best ally in any Disney production.
