  I’ve seen this movie four times from start to finish, plus bits and pieces on cable over the course of 20 years, and I still do not understand what the Fabergé eggs have to do with the nuclear bombs, or why Kamal Khan partners with General Orlov. Also, I like how Bond is desperate to stop this nuclear bomb from exploding, then takes like 20 minutes to put on full clown makeup as a “disguise.” He’s 007 - license to make balloon animals.

  Bond on autopilot.

  Octopussy is a case study in a plot with no narrative momentum. Things happen, but they don't build on each other. Scenes may work by themselves, but there's no connective tissue holding them together. They're like so many beautiful beads without the string to turn them into jewelry.

  Fuera de Serie: Bond, James Bond - The International Spy, The Icon & The Once Serial Women Beater

  For a movie that has been almost universally dissed by both the most ardent and the most casual fans of Agent 007, this wasn't as bad an experience as I expected. Don't get me wrong, this movie is by no means good, but I don't think it's a total failure either.

  Personally, I think its biggest drawback is what I would call "the randomness of it all". In terms of movies that are almost parodies of the franchise, this one has to be the top one due to how absurd it is from the very beginning with a chase involving a clown. A…

  I watched this one a ton when I was a kid/teenager. Octopussy is actually less campy than that silly title might suggest. It has a Cold War influenced plot, fun dialogue/gadgets/locations and mighty impressive stunt work (that airplane sequence blows my mind). I also love that we get to see Q go on a field assignment. More Desmond Llewellyn is always a good thing in my opinion.

  Definitely an underappreciated Moore era Bond movie.
