Perhaps a little overlong and initially expository, but the genre trappings quickly take a backseat to a slow burn drama with a really terrific central performance. LOOPER and Benson/Moorhead vibes, suitably gnarly when it counts. Real good stuff.

Watched this on account of I saw it was an uncredited Zahler script. Sure seems like it! Simultaneously a little overly terse and extremely slow, with some dubious indigenous representation, but of course winds up fairly gnarly and in its way moral. Also has a soundtrack of original songs that at some points narrate the events of the movie.
The movie version of the "men will literally X instead of going to therapy" meme.
Not bad. Or you could just watch THE INCREDIBLES again.
