Mountaintop Motel Massacre
Synopsis
Please do not disturb Evelyn. She already is.
After several years in an insane asylum, Evelyn, the keeper of the Mountaintop Motel, is released and resumes doing business. She kills her young charge out of anger, but convinces the police it was an accident - and pushed into insanity, she then proceeds to target her guests, first by releasing vermin into their rooms, but then by using her trusty sickle.

I took a “personal day” yesterday and just spent the whole thing watching 80’s slashers because that’s what I do any time I’m not feeling well or just need a day to relax or if it’s a Tuesday to be honest. What I’m saying here is that there is never a bad time to watch a slasher from 198-whatever.
This is kinda slow at times but damn it has some phenomenal damn near perfect rainy day atmosphere that was exactly what I needed at the time. It also has one of the greatest taglines: “Don’t disturb Evelyn...she already is!”. The idea of a motel with underground tunnels is pretty creepy and might seem familiar to anyone who has seen Vacancy and…

Please do not disturb Evelyn, she already is! That has to be up there with the all time great eighties slasher movie taglines. Sadly, the film itself doesn't quite live up to it. Mountaintop Motel Massacre gets off to a shocking start with some animal violence and a murder scene, before we get into the film proper - which involves a motel being run by a former mental patient. There's obvious Psycho influence, from the motel setting to the central antagonist; the old woman providing a reversal on the premise from Hitchcock's classic. Evelyn makes for an interesting twist on the common slasher killer, though she's never really used in an interesting way. The plot basically involves a few groups…

Ok, but hear me out. What if he IS a Columbia Records executive?
This was an alright watch. Found myself just enjoying some of the tropes. I loved how everytime a plan would be formed, something like that damn tree blocking the road or the phones being down would put a damper on their choices. Didn’t love it but it was a nice coincidence to have a Roger Corman Slasher on the day news of his death was released. RIP to a legend of cinema.
Degrees of Kevin Bacon: 2
1. Bill Thurman and Jeff Bridges in The Last Picture Show
2. Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon in R.I.P.D

I’ve seen this a few times now over the years and it’s always been a Frustrating movie for me simply based on the amount of promise it has with its great setting, amazing tag line, super solid score, and one hell of an awesome villain. There’s more good here than bad… but there’s more dull/boring moments than there isn’t and that’s the ultimate enjoyment killer for me as far as weirdo psychological slashers go.
The VS blu ray looks fantastic and Mountaintop Motel Massacre does have charms to be had so you can bet on me giving this another go in a year or two abd hoping I finally get on its wavelength.
Also, dope poster!

I’ve had this film in my possession for nearly 15 years and have never watched it until now. Part of a double bill DVD with the far superior, The Initiation, this film certainly has a few things working for it.
-Creepy rundown motel.
-Old woman having a psychotic episode.
-Cadre of characters to be picked off.
But somehow somethings feels off or missing and my particular version has some odd editing as if someone went it years later to tweak the film. There are a few good death scenes but I think I realized why I was hesitant to watch after all these years.

Please do not disturb Evelyn. She already is. One of the greatest '80s horror taglines, and a crazy cover to boot yet somehow I always left this VHS back in the day. Evelyn has had some issues in past and has been recently released from a clinic to resume running the Mountaintop Motel with her family. She gets pissed when she finds her daughter's bunny in her garden again...oh and catches her worshipping the devil. This does seem to set her recovery back quite a ways. The folks who will suffer most are those who decide to stop at this motel. I have to admit, it was made with so much more care then I would have expected. Some of…

It seems unfair to pick a movie because you just watched some really unpleasant cannibalism and want to unwind and then be all like 'sorry I just got out of this really intense thing and I need a cosy horror that doesn't act like a horror movie at all but ALSO is not just wandering around in the rain, that's boring.'
Meaning, this is a great sleepy movie whose tense moments are seen thru a rain-streaked window and there is a single impediment to escape: the giant, felled tree.
Simple setup and execution, bring 1-27 afghans, slipper socks, stuffed plushie and cereal of your choice and forget you ever saw that guy eating a baby.

**** (out of 5)
The only review I was able to find for this out-of-the-way motel simply stated “at least it’s dry in here” so I thought I’d add my thoughts on my stay at The Mountaintop Motel.
What a bargain at $7 a night! I knew this was the cheapest place to stay in a fifty mile radius but wasn’t expecting it to be THIS cheap. So imagine my surprise when at check-in I was also given a complimentary candle! And shortly after settling in I discovered a complimentary snake in my room as well. This place goes all out!
The room decor is very personalized. There is original artwork on every wall.…

May 11 primary pick
Dear Dr. NotAnnaFaris* and my esteemed #SlasherSaturday** colleagues,
Thank you for referring this patient, Evelyn, to me, as your trusted unqualified and unlicensed hobby villain criminal psychologist.
On the surface, Evelyn is a very capable owner-operator of the popular MountainTop Motel, and has been keeping the place in good order despite the intense underlying unresolved trauma and her strongheld values and beliefs which appear to have unfortunately resulted in homicide(s), allegedly. Through the operation of this business, most importantly, Evelyn has maintained her independence and a stable income following her period of psychiatric care.
If this cluster of tragedies had not occurred, I believe that her motel would have become a top-rated traveller’s destination and…

I gotta say I love some weekly dose of dumb film that give zero F**** about logic, characters and cohesiveness. This slasher takes every slasher tropes up it’s sleeves and follows them in a ridiculous manner. Right when the moron had the guts to say he was a Columbia Records producer, I knew I was in for a ride. The wife who just couldn’t give a shit minutes after her husband’s snake bite, the daughter who calls for her dead dad for help instead of a cop or a hospital, the only sheriff in the town who’s mostly unavailable, the ghost girl and our beloved sneaky slasher, this was treasure that kept on giving. I mean if these many characters could not overpower this woman, these idiots deserve to die. A diabolical no brainer that I mostly enjoyed. RIP Roger Corman, thanks for producing films like these man, I mean it!

Between philosophical discussion and deception for sex, travelers in a rural motel's cabins are terrorized by snakes, rats, and roaches. Not from housekeeping, but a grandma manager using underground passages and driven by the voice of a daughter she slashed to death.
Better viewed as a '70s proto-slasher than example struck at the craze's height. Waiting an hour before sickle crosses flesh again, this can't hang in the same year as Jason discovering hockey and Englund severing Freddy's fingers for Craven's lens. Atmospherics faintly recalling Tobe Hooper's Eaten Alive and Texas Chain Saw make do until voices demand murder in the last half-hour. Who survives could be construed as textbook to dying conditioning over race and storytelling. Watched via Anchor Bay's DVD.

"That lady's husband's been snakebitten."
Idc what that guy says, he's a carphone salesman & a creep.
Mountaintop Motel Massacre, or: Identity - The Sans Twist Cut has a fun concept (spoiler alert 👀 it's in the title) but it forgets to be fun. It has eerie atmosphere, but only capitalizes on it on the final act. A lot of promise with little delivery, although I'm a fan of our maniac mommy's murder weapon of choice & I'm a sucker for slashers that fit into a holiday motif 🤱 Thx, Grindul! 🫶
