The plot, what little there is of one, is very Lovecraftian - endless flight through a seaside town, followers of an obscure sect pursuing you even in your sleep, locked up safe in your motel. But there's an overriding voice that is reminiscent of Shirley Jackson - events taking on intimate, sinister undertones that echo and echo through claustrophobic domesticity just starting to sprawl out into a post-war infinity.

I just don't buy this portrayal of teenagers I mean, upset a drunk trained organ grinder monkey crashed their party?? its so unrealistic like the writers have never interacted with anyone under the age of 30 it's very hello fellow kids bet you'd hate if there was a cute performing monkey if u know what I mean
Yelling at your evil henchman when u have crashed into a field & then snapping stfu at a nearby cow for mooing just encapsulates this entire Disney era perfectly...
(also the theme song is literally insane to anyone without much awareness of 1969 as a year/ state of being)
