I like how the theme song plays every time Axel Foley does something cool, and that happens at least once every ten minutes
(this is not a complaint)
One of the most ego-driven, indifferently-produced films in the history of the medium and a stunning artifact of its time, both of which are indicated in its first few minutes by A) Brigitte Nielsen; B) a shot of Eddie Murphy in a Speedo with his production company credit directly over his dick, and C) Axel Foley being totally awesome driving a $67,000 Italian luxury sportscar through Detroit Motor City. Generally plotless, obnoxious with violence, frequently offensive, and packed with wildly stupid shtick absolutely nobody would fall for, it contains the foundational DNA of future masterpiece BAD BOYS II. I adore this movie.
This is one isn’t about cocaine smuggling, like the original, but it feels more cocaine-y❄️. Does anyone know what I mean?😆
But it’s basically a remake of the first one and I don’t mind that at all😎. I could watch Axel Foley do his fast talking schtick all day🗣️. It’s crazy fun.

Similarly to the first movie, mostly a completely unremarkable buddy cop procedural/actioner plot hijacked by two dueling creative personalities: Eddie Murphy's mercilessly unrestrained, seemingly endless hyper-active impression riffing no matter the context of the scene (which Brest had more skill for incorporating into the charming relaxed hangout vibes) and Tony Scott's over-stylized 80s post-Top Gun/Miami Vice pop music video aesthetic frenzy of color and destruction that he plays for mostly straight and crudely macho action movie thrills. You can tell right away from all the ominous synths and stylish slow-motion inserts of that opening heist followed by the suiting up montage where Murphy is reintroduced looking like he's just walked off the set of a Ferrari commercial that we're in…

Behold! The epitome of what comes to mind when you think of a sequel. A much bigger, louder, dumber, but also less effective follow up to the original.
Having heard so many negative things about this I don't believe they are totally warranted since, even though it doesn't quite hit the mark like the first one and the excess does work against it more than for it, it's still an enjoyable movie.

Tony Scott’s stylish direction and terrific synth score adds a solid vibe to this action comedy sequel. Though the investigation part doesn’t impress you much, the effortlessly comical Eddie Murphy and his fun camaraderie with Reinhold and Ashton keep the show moving and makes it for a passable entertainer.
