The Wild Robot has some incredibly enthralling animation. I was in awe of what was on screen, and many scenes in this would make a terrific wallpaper. The motherhood metaphor is really obvious here, but they made some unexpectedly real jokes about Roz raising Brightbill. My biggest gripe with this, though, is how fast it moved. I never really felt like I could sit with the emotions it was stirring in me, and some of the edits and sequences made this super clear it was cut for shorter attention spans. That said, I still think the film did wonderfully with everything it explored. The voice work is terrific—no one was phoning it in, the story was poignant and humourous, and as I said, the animation is astounding. I left the theatre with such a warm feeling.
After the week that has been, this was a much-needed feel-good film to remind me that we can put our differences aside for the greater good—even if things don't seem that way right now.
