Eli Olsberg’s review published on Letterboxd:
The inverse of Green Room (or any lead character in a Saulnier joint), dropping the human equivalent of The Terminator (a particular weapon during a late scene is clearly an homage to T2) into a system not prepared to handle his programming.
The first hour or so of this is one of the most confident slow boils I've seen in quite some time and even at 2 hours the movie remains mostly an efficient, logical series of events that has the trademark Saulnier touch of action and dialogue that are equally terse and electric.
Speaking of electricity, Aaron Pierre is a pure jolt in this, I know Boyega was originally attached but hard to see anyone else in this role, with his Reacher-like stature coming in like a quiet hurricane on a sunny day. Also will just say Don Johnson is doing top tier villain work here!
Running on fumes, so last thing I'll say is Saulnier really is one of our best when it comes to using violence as a means of expression, masterfully giving the audience some release while also dealing with its consequences.
