After a solid entry into the series with Halloween (2018), David Gordon Green and Danny McBride seem to have completely forgotten or misunderstood what made the original film special. It was the feeling that what was happening to Laurie could happen to anyone, and that Michael Myers was always lurking around the corner.
This movie couldn't be further away from that core principle - none of these characters seem like real people and there's rarely any urgent feeling of danger. The very idea of Michael Myers seeing something in Corey and almost mentoring him is laughable. Michael is supposed to be the embodiment of evil, not some Hannibal Lecter type serial killer. Everything about this just feels half thought out and rushed.
Even the idea of how people deal with trauma and how others treat them would be interesting, but they already did it to death in their previous two entries.
I went into this with an open mind, but this might be even worse than Halloween Kills.
