• Tales of Halloween

    Tales of Halloween

    ★★★

Tales of Halloween is a horror anthology that mostly sits on the shitty side of the scale, but it has it's bright spots. Its certainly not as awful as Deadtime Stories or Watch if you Dare, but certainly not great like Creepshow either. This one is more on par with mid level anthologies like Body Bags and that is a shame when considering the solid cast featuring names like Adrienne Barbeau, Lin Shaye, Adam Green, and Barbara Crampton as well…

I just finished watching an interview with Sammy "The Bull" Gravano this morning and it put me in the mood to see a mob film. Then I saw this was on Amazon Prime Video and I figured, what the hell, I'll give it a shot. Everyone else seems to pan it but I tend to like even terrible mob films. Just as I do with horror. Sometimes I like the films others consider piles.

Well....in this case everyone was 100%…

  • Brooklyn Rules

    Brooklyn Rules

    ★★★½

Brooklyn Rules is the tale of three childhood friends and their relationships as they navigate life from crime to love and loss in Brooklyn during the 1970s and 1980s.

It didn't take long for me to be surprised that this film flew under my radar for so long. While it’s no Scorsese-esque masterpiece, it doesn’t need to be. Brooklyn Rules is a solid mob film with shades of A Bronx Tale and just a dash of that Scorsese touch.

    The Pruitt-Igoe Myth

    ★★★★

Years ago the film Candyman turned me on to an interest in public housing projects. I scoured YouTube for videos on Chicago's Cabrini Green. While watching everything I could find, my search led me to stumble upon The Pruitt-Igoe Myth. A documentary about one of St. Louis' most notorious former housing projects. Through a collection of interviews with former residents and some stock footage we are given both a history lesson and first hand accounts of life in the projects…

"I don't consider myself homeless because a homeless man ain't got a home" -Tommy

Dark Days is a gripping documentary about the homeless population who used to live in the Amtrak tunnels under Manhattan before they were eventually chased out in the early 2000s. They managed to build a sort of village for those who had nothing but problems in life. Some of the dwellings they built were two levels tall with multiple rooms and were highly creative, even housing…
