I love Nolan’s fascination with science and time. The way he is able to play with these themes in a cinematic setting is such a gift (to all of us really). And this time he kept it easy to follow too!
For me, the beginning was the weakest part, but once the movie hooked me, it hooked me for good. I’m glad that he didn’t shy away from the scientific-moral-political complexity of the topic. A subject like this needed a script with tight, immersive dialogues, nuanced actors to deliver that script, and a powerful but not overbearing score to set the tone. Luckily, they scored on all fronts.
All scientific innovations come with burdens – some more than others. Here, Nolan raises different ideas and opinions on the topic of distruptive, desctructive innovations. I did wish we delved more into the philisophical side of the dilemmas, but I understand it’s not necessarily part of a man’s story. So while the movie left me with questions to ponder on, I found the ending satisfying for the main character’s journey.
Can’t wait to revisit this.
