    “I am an appetite, nothing more.”

    The best kind of cover song — one that takes the same melody but changes the scale and register and makes something seemingly untouchable wholly new all over again.

    The Eggers project continues to arrest me, but I do hope the guy swerves in a big way next time he’s at bat. This went about as well as could be imagined but I can’t help but imagine where else this mastery of form could take an audience too.

    Could NOT stop staring at Timmy’s fingernails.

    It’s kind of miraculous that the central performances are as relaxed as they are — that they could have so easily veered into parody but maintain some sense of the “real” throughout. Toss that in with a couple scenes that reach beyond the general confines of these stories (the public access broadcast most readily coming to mind), and you have a piece that is more than functional and even loosely compelling throughout.

    It all goes down easy…but in many ways isn’t that the most damning thing you could say about a Dylan biopic?
