I suffer from psychogenic seizures and Lily Rose Depps performance was so horrifying and too close to home that I almost walked out multiple times. But I’m glad I stayed. Breathtakingly gorgeous, and a film deeply interested in the enthralling fascination, fear, disgust and compulsive obsession men have with trying and failing to control and understand young women’s sexuality, pleasure and power.

Made in 1974, Black Christmas must have been on the cutting edge of the second wave women’s liberation movement at the time with the obvious feminist themes in the abortion plot. Yet, watching this film during the reproductive justice dystopia of 2024, I was still violently shook by the films clever subversion of Hallmark Christmas family ideals.

Black Christmas exposes the sheer rot of the worst despicable horrors possible lurking in the domestic familial confines. Beyond the obscene sexual harassment…

Redemption for Melissa! Justice for Jo! Bill sucks and both women are gorgeous and brilliant and deserve better. I'm sorry that Jo got sucked back into his manchild frat-bro, egotistical bullshit. He's just mad that Cary Elwes is hotter and better at grant-writing.

I'm usually prone to cinema-sins on the inner workings of academia, but half way through I tossed the nitpicking out the window and really enjoyed the fake movie science. This movie has a reputation for being a…

I heard so much about how this movie famously led to breakups, and I went in bracing for that. My fiancee refused to watch it with me for this reason.

The opening third act was the most disturbing for me because being it was such an unflinching and accurate rendering of the banal horrors of modern dating. A man who doesn't have the balls to break with his girlfriend for years even though he secretly hates her and talks constant…

Thought I would hate this movie for the woman hating, which turned out to be on par with expectations. Did not expect a bizarre critique of contemporary art that started off with potential but quickly devolved into reductive parodies of performance art.
