I suffer from psychogenic seizures and Lily Rose Depps performance was so horrifying and too close to home that I almost walked out multiple times. But I’m glad I stayed. Breathtakingly gorgeous, and a film deeply interested in the enthralling fascination, fear, disgust and compulsive obsession men have with trying and failing to control and understand young women’s sexuality, pleasure and power.

Made in 1974, Black Christmas must have been on the cutting edge of the second wave women’s liberation movement at the time with the obvious feminist themes in the abortion plot. Yet, watching this film during the reproductive justice dystopia of 2024, I was still violently shook by the films clever subversion of Hallmark Christmas family ideals.

Redemption for Melissa! Justice for Jo! Bill sucks and both women are gorgeous and brilliant and deserve better. I'm sorry that Jo got sucked back into his manchild frat-bro, egotistical bullshit. He's just mad that Cary Elwes is hotter and better at grant-writing.
