A holiday favourite for generations… George Bailey has spent his entire life giving to the people of Bedford Falls. All that prevents rich skinflint Mr. Potter from taking over the entire town is George’s modest building and loan company. But on Christmas Eve the business’s $8,000 is lost and George’s troubles begin.
I might have to consider this an annual Christmas rewatch. It’s endlessly relatable and heartwarming as it was when it first came out. So many great messages here that reflect life perfectly. The greed of Potter being the worst but the most accurate is what kills me when watching this.
Frank Capra and his writing team crafted probably the most original Christmas story that’s not related to religion and Christmas Carol. It still stands the rest of time in not only its cheer but also its greedy coal.
James Stewart is one the best leading men we’ve ever had and outside of a Hitchcock film, this is his best example of why. While also being surrounded by an excellent cast. The story is what keeps me invested though and when it all pays off it has me deep in the feels. That ending is possibly one of the best I’ve seen.
