oh… i was looking forward to this and it was a bit of a letdown. the legend of wendigos are surely something very fascinating and scary, so this sounded like it would be really good but it was the opposite. it was such a slow burn and it felt like nothing really was happening, it wasn't interesting at all.
]]>Chloë Grace Moretz was so brilliant in this role
]]>need Olivia DeJonge in more horror
]]>very atmospheric anthology with 3 different horror stories; my favorite is the vampire one
]]>this was fun, intense, and the sound design/score was amazing. the atmosphere was done pretty well too and they used its setting very effectively. i loved the wolf man lore and the look of the wolf man. there were a few things that were left unexplored, like the generational trauma. for the most part, this serves as a decent body horror and i left more pleased than i thought i’d be.
also, the little girl’s name being Ginger is most definately an homage to one of the greatest werewolf/body horror movies ever, Ginger Snaps.
]]>not the biggest fan of movies with a time loop because i get too confused but this was very intriguing and all sorts of crazy, didn’t really expect it to play out like this. also, Luke Hemsworth? enough said
]]>i haven’t read the book, and i don’t know much about the ongoing controversy surrounding the film, and it’s 2 leads. that aside, this was a powerful and emotional story on love, abuse, and trauma. this was done so well and i felt all of the emotions that Lily was feeling throughout; particularly when she finally took a breath of fresh air, i felt that and the whole last 10 minutes were so beyond emotional.
]]>this isn’t terrible by any means. now that it’s been a few years since covid, i can look at it differently and i think the story is actually kind of unique. it’s not amazing by any means, but it’s still pretty entertaining and at some points hilarious.
]]>i don’t think this film deserves all of the hate it gets. it’s another stunning werewolf period piece. i truly love the gothic atmosphere and i think the Little Red Riding Hood story is perfect for a dark movie like this!
]]>“I hope you get what your heart desires. -Galinda 💕”
feeling a bit down so i ofc had to watch. such a comfort film in every way.
i had to turn it off halfway through because i just couldn’t… i was so beyond bored. i feel like all of the Alien movies are too similar; i just can’t get into them.
]]>a childhood staple.
]]>very interesting watch. it’s a wonderful representation of gothic horror, but i wanted a bit more from it. there were some genuinely creepy parts that i did enjoy; my favorite part was the scene of Miss Jessel sitting in the reed by the water; it gives you the creeps and is honestly so effective.
coming back to this a few hours later because i have more thoughts. i’m also a bit disappointed because it felt like their wasn’t much of a conclusion? it just sorta ends, and you don’t get to see what happens with Flora and Mrs Grose.
]]>it snowed today so naturally i had to watch a new winter horror film. this was such a cozy and creepy slasher watch. reminiscent of another Canadian slasher called Curtains, this one also takes place at a secluded lodge during a snowstorm. the atmos is gorgeous. it is filled with claustrophobic dread and bleakness. an old and seemingly abandoned lodge lit only by hurricane lamps in an endless winter. the sounds of the heavy blowing snow that rattle every window. knit blankets, roaring fireplaces, and footsteps that are coming down the hall! i didn’t know what to expect with this one, but when i saw that opening card about the wendigo, i knew i was in for a good time.
]]>i’ve been wanting to watch this one since it was in theaters, and finally got a chance! this was so much fun and this is Melissa Barrera’s best performance to date. the overall aesthetic was probably my favorite part about it
]]>Brittany Murphy is one of the only reasons why i love this early 2000s slasher. it is most definitely a B-trash horror film that came from the success of Scream, but it’s fairly entertaining and has some really great sequences.
]]>relaxing and visually stunning film but i was pretty bored. did it merit the golden globe? not sure.
]]>amazing performances from Pugh and Garfield. i'm not the biggest fan of a nonlinear narrative as i get a bit confused, so i didn’t really enjoy that about this film and feel i would’ve liked it better without that. i knew that ending was coming, but my stomach still dropped and it made me pretty sad.
]]>Feathers McGraw
]]>men are always the villains in the end.. as a fan of Louisa since her House of Anubis era, this was so much fun to watch
]]>bought it on demand at home !!!! just as good. literally cannot wait until part 2 THIS YEARRRRR
my mom’s rating: ★★★½
]]>happy new year. this special is everything to me and i remember watching it every year on ABC Family. genuinely it deserves as much love as the og Rudolph special, i feel like this one is just as wonderful.
]]>oh, wow. this was so magical and heartwarming on my first ever rewatch. i know this one isn’t well liked at all, but i have so much fun and think it was the best addiction in the Fantastic Beasts trilogy which is sad to say because i was looking forward to the final 2 movies.
Jude Law takes center stage here as a young Albus Dumbledore, and he is amazing at getting into the role, and leading the movie with Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander. this third installment gives us another glimpse into the wizarding world. tone wise, i feel like this one is the most similar to the original Harry Potter movies which is maybe why i love it so much. the qilin storyline is my absolute favorite, they are so so cute.
the casting in this is absolutely perfect, i will never get over it. Callum Turner as Thesus looks exactly like Newt, and don’t even get me started on Aberforth Dumbledore… looks and acts exactly like the actor from Deathly Hallows Part 2. so top notch. and finally, i gotta talk about that ending scene. the snowy ambience just adds to it, and it’s genuinely so heartwarming seeing everyone reunited & happy, with Dumbledore walking away. honestly, glad the movies ended here because the ending is pretty perfect.
]]>if you like atmospheric horror, you will love this. it’s a bit of a slow burn but it really pulled me in the second it started. too good. Robert Eggers did a phenomenal job with this adaption of Nosferatu. it is definitely my new favorite of his filmography and i love the unique atmosphere he brings to his films; similar to that of Tim Burton and Guillermo Del Toro. what an atmosphere… the snowy trek to Count Orlock’s castle was beyond mesmerizing and a highlight of the film for me. gothic horror is so back. Lily Rose-Depp blew it out of the water here and i really need to see her in more horror, she was perfect for the role.
]]>i think i enjoy rewatching this one over the first, but i also think that there’s way too many plot lines going on, and that makes it feel messy. truly love the opening scene and the third act/final battle in the catacombs and Callum Turner also has my heart. it’s nice to see the return of Hogwarts and all of the Harry Potter easter eggs like the Sorcerer’s Stone at Nicolas Flamel’s home but at times, those easter eggs also feel too forced. overall, it’s a fun and magical watch but could have been loads better.
]]>Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them is just fine. it is an interesting way to continue the Wizarding World franchise; personally i would have done a Marauders trilogy but that’s just me.
the casting in this movie is not very good. Johnny Depp as Grindewald just doesn’t really make sense, and Ezra Miller is one of the most annoying actors ever actually. i think i would enjoy this a lot more if they weren’t involved. im not a huge fan of the NYC setting. it feels a lot less magical than the Harry Potter movies, just doesn’t work for me. plus, “No-Maj?” really? not a fan. i think it would’ve been a lot more fun if it was just a Newt Scamander standalone film about him saving animals and what not.
]]>way too overhyped. sorry not sorry. Mikey Madison is phenomenal of course, but i had no interest throughout most of the movie.
]]>love love love the atmosphere of this movie so much. not a huge fan of the overall story/the anthology aspect of it, but still very entertaining.
]]>starts off strong but i don’t like the ending
]]>“we’ll always be family”
absolute chills. 9 year old me found crying in a ditch.
can’t believe i’ve never watched this in full… honestly, some parts of this made me so beyond emotional. i really grew up with this series, such a nice watch as a huge Harry Potter fan. really happy the cast was able to do something like this. Emma, Daniel, and Rupert have also all aged like fine wine.
]]>2000’s horror trash which i usually love; this one was entertaining and i do love a good Winter set horror movie. it’s very low budget, but it works.
]]>this is NOT a kids movie.
rating boosted only by my respect for claymation
]]>closing out this year’s Christmas season with the best.
]]>Merry Christmas, Letterboxd friends!!!
the way Bob Clark directed this and Black Christmas… both Christmas perfection, and nail the ambience perfectly.
]]>it’s just not christmas without watching this. need that sequel!
]]>had to rewatch to collect more of my thoughts. first off, the fact that the girls decided to do this for us fans is my favorite part about it; even though it’s been 10 years they haven’t forgotten about Anubis and still hold it close to their hearts.
right off the bat, they get back into their characters so well and it almost feels like no time has passed at all… it’s like when you don’t see a close friend for a long while and then you meet up years later, and it feels nothing has changed at all.
it was a simple reunion in perfect Anubis style, with Nathalia Ramos also making her return as Nina Martin after leaving the show before Season 3. Nina meeting KT was a highlight for me, it is something i have wanted to see since Season 3 started, and the interaction was PERFECT, i would love to see more of these 2 together. Amber… she is just phenomenal. even 10 years later, she didn’t change at all and still has the best humor ever, she was also a highlight for me. i wish we could have seen more of Patricia, but i feel like her arriving late to the dinner was very in character.
this makes me want more Anubis SO SO BAD, but i am just beyond grateful we even got this special little reunion. i’ll be watching this every Christmas from now on. thank you to the Anubis girls and of course Tasie (who plays Mara, and also wrote the episode), for putting this together! best Christmas EVER… felt like 2011-2013 again, and i am feeling so festive and happy.
]]>genuinely so good and so batshit crazy. i fear this one is better than the original, sorry.
]]>will always be my absolute favorite, puts me right in my damn feels.
]]>this is genuinely just what i needed in 2024. house of anubis has been a huge part of my life since it aired in 2011. will probably log this a few more times today bc i can’t get enough.
]]>my third year in a row logging this one on Christmas Eve Eve, maybe that’s a tradition for me. genuinely such a Christmas classic. Jim Carrey embodies the titular character with perfection and Taylor Momsen is amazing as Cindy Lou-Who. what i really love about it is the expanded story and the world building. taking place in a snowflake is so cute and is such a fun little nod to Horton Hears a Who.
]]>“i think im gonna go into the family business” this movie never fails to put a smile on my face
]]>Watched on Sunday December 22, 2024.
]]>this is another touching childhood Christmas season staple of mine. Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July is a gorgeous, interesting, and dark spectacle that features a crossover with Rudolph, Frosty, and his family, and it completely expands the lore in this universe. i think this stop motion is completely misunderstood, and deserves to shine as bright as the original Rudolph special and the other popular Rankin-Bass Christmas movies.
what interests me the most is the lore that is expanded on here. it tells the story of the evil and very powerful sorcerer named Winterbolt who has the ability to create blizzards and snowstorms. jealous of Santa Clause, the love he receives, and wanting to be just as “powerful” as him, he creates a snowstorm so intense with the intention of Santa not being able to deliver presents to the children around the world so he can take his spot. little to his knowledge, the Queen of the Northern Lights, Lady Boreal, sacrifices herself and her powers to give a special gift to newborn Rudolph. she gives him a special mark on his hoof which depicts a star in a snowflake, and this power gives Rudolph the ability to glow his nose, and guide Santa through Winterbolt’s storm. Winterbolt then falls into a deep sleep, but soon wakes up, and it’s up to Rudolph, Frosty, and friends to save the day.
it takes place in July, but it still has that Christmas/Winter vibe that i love so much about the Rankin-Bass specials. anyone who hasn’t seen this that loves Rudolph should watch this before Christmas season is over. this one is my favorite!
]]>been really wanting to watch this one again this Christmas season. genuinely has the same heartwarming feeling as the first one, and i love the Santa Clause needs to find Mrs Clause plot line, it’s a little bit brilliant to me. Plus, Elizabeth Mitchell’s face card is too good.
]]>Christmas masterpiece. i just can’t get enough. makes me feel so cozy, happy, and like i’m 5 years old again… so nostalgic and magical.
]]>Charlie Brown is right, consumerism really does ruin the Christmas magic and what the season is actually about
]]>so interesting to see Santa portrayed in a more humanized way here; he gets sick with a cold and is also feeling unneeded for Christmas so he decides not to make the Christmas night trek around the world. it’s a sweet little stop-motion by Rankin Bass, promoting “Christmas Spirit.”
personally, i much prefer Santa Clause is Comin to Town over this one, but it’s still such a nostalgic and magical watch that will never get old.
]]>excellent Rankin-Bass special and an absolute Christmas classic. I love the Winter Warlock so much and Topper the penguin is adorable. the Christmas magic here gives me the coziest feeling ever, and it has been a favorite of mine since forever.
]]>fuck adulting i just want to belly whop with frosty :(
]]>round 3 🩷
