If you’re ever in the need to have your mood uplifted or simply just want to feel happy, you should definitely watch this. This is a terrific film, Damien Chazelle hasn’t made a bad film yet, his directing style is something very enjoyable and I can’t wait for Babylon. The performances are great, props to Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone for not only delivering these great performances but for also learning to sing and dance, and with Gosling also learning to play the piano. I also appreciate that their singing isn’t great or perfect, it’s not like they’re professionals so it’s neat that they don’t come off that way. The music in this is amazing, A Lovely Night is definitely my favourite song from it, however the one thing I don’t like about this is the song Mia sings for her audition, Fools Who Dream, I just don’t like it for some reason. The cinematography is also amazing and the writing is all around solid. This has some terrific sequences, the Planetarium one without a doubt is the best, along with the epilogue. I also think the ending is great, yeah it’s bittersweet but that’s what I admire about it, this whole movie is about falling in love and fantastical things that come along with it, and with the end it brings you out of that fantasy and back into reality, which is something I find comforting. Such a great film.
