Speaking of a wonderful life, we decided to put on Frank Capra's 1946 Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life for this special day. This was the first time I've ever watched this in my entire life and it's a new holiday favorite, but one that'll stick with me for the rest of my life in any season.
Not thinking of a long review because everything's been said about this beautiful movie. The only reason I didn't give it a score any higher was because it's a little long than I was expecting, but it's so easy to brush it off to the side because this is literally one of the most endearing things that I've ever seen.
George Bailey exists in all of us and this movie hit particularly hard this year. We can't afford to get out, meet our friends, greet them a Merry Christmas, give some gifts, and cherish the physical bond we have with them. With the pandemic keeping us inside our homes feeling alone and missing something, this was the first time in my life that I've rejected any material gift or wish for Christmas. The ending to It's a Wonderful Life is one of the most moving conclusions of all time and is one to carry and live the rest of our life with.
"All you can take with you is that which you've given away". This enduring and timeless wonder of a film is the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you for this, Frank Capra.
